Preliminary-wise, I have a 4 way tie:

Brock O Lee

bearfacedkiller

Invective

&

gbelleh

I am double checking with Kristi in the Forum Knife thread to get confirmation on handle material, cause it looks like it may be FRCP to me & IIRC the LW N5 was originally listed as FRN, just want to be sure...

Which begs another question, I am undecided on how to take your guess of "FRN/FRCP", gino...that seems to me to be 2 different handle materials wrapped up in one guess...shoot me a PM with your thoughts on this, gbelleh :)

All finialists: be thinking of your random number 1-200...BUT DON'T PM it to me yet please!

ok...next phase...the secret number has been hermetically sealed in an empty mayonaise jar on Funk & Wagnall's back porch...ok, ok, enough with the Karnak the Magnificent skit (Johnny Carson, Tonight Show for you young pups...check it out on YouTube) ...good stuff :p

Seriously...a responsible secret forum member has been given the magic number to be revealed on my "Go"

gbelleh, the judges (me, myself, & I) have ruled you're eligible...so Invective, bearfacedkiller, Brock O Lee, & gbelleh go ahead and publicly post your best guess at my number in this thread I know I said to PM me, but go ahead & post it up here...fire at will, first come first served, no duplicate guesses, you know the drill!

***REMEMBER**** the range is from 1 to 200

It's my personal opinion that I would allow FRN/FRCP as a single guess. The exact composition of the polymer doesn't really impact user experience. People were allowed to guess G10 without specifying sculpted or peel-ply, so I'd say allow it. (Just saw Paladin's post, glad you all agree.) Funny how far off all of us were. Did anyone even guess S90V?

Whether or not you're a fan of the native, we're getting a sub $100 special run knife in S90V! I happen to be an FRN/backlock fan, so it's up my alley, although I'm not bonkers over the color, I like something different.

Anyway, thanks again for offering the GAW, and I'm glad some high-quality forumites are in the running.

Ok, my number is... 178

I already PMed paladin, but below is the thread that led to my confusion about what the handle material actually is. Even Michael Janich wasn't sure about the Manix 2. So, all the Manix 2s are FRCP, but the Native 5 LWs are all FRN? I'm still a little confused.

Hmm, I also remember another thread with Gringo where this was hashed out. I believe Kristi stepped in to remove the confusion. I'll see if I can scare it up.

Edit: It was not gringo, but a person who presented a broken manix LTW. Her quote below (which doesn't tell us anything about the native specifically:
First, all lightweight Manix 2 models are FRCP. There was a mistake made on the site and it has been corrected.
For the record I don't mind either way, just seeking to answer the question.

I could tell the "feel" of the LWN5 & LWM2 s110v was off the minute I handled them, it wasn't like any FRN I'd ever experienced-- too "plasticky"...

...And I am as familiar with the feel of Spydie FRN as I am with the back of my own hand...But I took their ad as both were FRN and I chalked it up to Sal tweaking the formula or adding secret sauce or something...

now, like you, I'm unsure

Wow, I couldn't have been more wrong. Congrats to the winners.

And it sure looks like FRCP to me.

Once we hear from Invective we'll announce the recipient of the LW N5...

I'd love to get it in the mail by Sat. at least!

AFAIK I'm pretty the final word that I saw was that all the Lt Wt M2's were FRCP and all the Lt Wt N5's were FRN. I don't have time to look up the post now, but I think it may have been Mr. Janich who checked it out and confirmed it.
K-390 on hand: Mule Team 17, Police 4 G-10, Endela (burlap micarta), Endela backup, Endura (canvas micarta), Straight Stretch (now blade-swapped with G-10 Stretch), Delica Wharncliffe, Dragonfly Wharncliffe, & Dragonfly Wharncliffe shorty mod
Note to self: Less is more.

Thanks again for this GAW opportunity, paladin. For the first time in a long while, I've seen a bit more pep and enthusiasm here amongst the Forumites. :) I think your GAW was a great idea!

No thanks necessary, but I appreciate the sentiment... :)

It really is great fun to sponsor a GAW...as MUCH, if not MORE, fun than competing in one.... :D

Plus I got a great ironic laugh out of discovering the Forum knife was the same model I was G'ingAW (albeit upgraded handles & steel)...

I could substitute a Kiwi 4 or maybe another model if the lucky recipient would find more utility out of a different model...just a thought :spyder:
