I think also that BBS tends to be a little more expensive than other retailers. This was mentioned previously and it is true. If you look at their prices in general they are slightly higher than other places. So it is possible that this sprint might have been $150 or something if it were another dealer. But BBS has had some really good exclusives, so I'm not complaining.
On the hunt for...
I'm hoping to snag one (maybe even two) of the M390 CF Millies also. I thought they would up for pre-order by now.

According to a post over on USN, the color of blue will be "Smurf":
The company selling them just sent me this info
"It's going to be royal blue. It's the same scales used in the Spyderco Blue Manix 2 Sprint Run."
Since I don't have any of the knives that already use this or a similar blue (such as the Manix 2 sprint, Yojimbo, Dodo, Sage 3), I'm fine with the choice.

That's nice news. I really liked the blue G10 used on the Manix 2. It is somewhat darker than the blue used on the Sage 3. :spyder:

For those outside the US who haven't checked in a while, BBS is now shipping their exclusives to international customers -- the Blue Para2 has a paypal "add to cart" button for international pre-orders at full pre-pay, limit 2.
I sent an e-mail and the sales rep sounded like he might be willing to ship other knives as well.
Not sure that I'm entirely comfortable with "no refunds" on a pre-order for something that doesn't exist yet, but for this knife I'm willing to take the risk.

Yeah, I thought about the "no refunds" policy as well. I'm pretty sure that they just want to keep folks from backing out of their commitment to purchase.
If, for some reason, BBS does not get the knife produced - then they would owe refunds to their customers. Otherwise, this would be a fraudulent business practice...and they are a reputable business. No worries there...

They are both excellent steels. Ease of sharpening is about the same, imo, at least in terms of how long it takes or how hard it is to grind. I haven't used M390 enough to be able to tell whether it is better or worse than 20CP in edge retention. All I can say is that both steels have excellent edge retention. What I like better about M390 has to do with somewhat subtle qualities with respect to the edge that M390 takes, at least in my hands. To me it seems to take an edge that is more aggressive and has better bite, is the best way I can put it. Perhaps I can just get it sharper for some reason. I don't know if these are measurable objective things or simply subjective. I'm in no way putting 20CP down. It's excellent and I bought several 20CP Para 2's because I like that steel a lot as well. But I like the way that M390 cuts a little better.steeldust wrote:Mongatu....What specifically do you like better about the M390 over the 20CP?....ease of sharpening?, edge retention?...

Right. If this were a pre-order for a 'regular' sprint run, I'd feel a bit differently about paying full price up-front, but if BBS is fronting the cash for 600 units (minus Collector's Club?) then I can understand the need to offset risk.phillipsted wrote:Yeah, I thought about the "no refunds" policy as well. Non-refundable *deposits* make sense in either case--so that 30% of their customers don't cancel orders as soon as the bigger, thinner-margin shops get stock and offer it for 5% cheaper. If those big shops wind up with cancelled pre-orders, they know they'll probably be able to sell them, or at least not to lose money on them. BBS doesn't have enough diversity in their stock to offset an unexpectedly unpopular knife.
TBH I've always been a bit envious of smaller dealers who get to 'play with the big boys', but two exclusive sprint runs from a dealer that only sells one brand of knife... I respect that kind of courage, but I don't envy the hypertension and ulcers it must be causing.

Resurecting this thread because I dont think its been disussed. According to their website they are not shipping ANY locking blades to the ENTIRE state of NY because of recent events started by the DA. Which sucks, because Id like to fet a para 2 sprint run and would love one of these.
Manix 2 DLC, Delica 4 FFG, Ladybug 3,County Comm H1 Ladybug 3 , Endura 4 FFG G10, C94 UKPK Leaf, Atlantic Salt, Military Camo DLC,Sage 1 Para 2 DLC, Delica 4.
My understanding is that the blue G-10 Para sprint is an exclusive for BBS, so those bigger, thinner margin shops won't be selling any of them unless it is on the secondary market. Doesn't exclusive in this context mean that Spyderco agrees to ONLY wholesale these knives to BBS?JacksonKnives wrote:-snip-

Yep, exclusive only to BBS. The only other people that will get it on the non-secondary market are collectors club members that receive all the variants. So you may see some popping up on eBay with collector's club #'s and possibly one or two at shops like Howe's that are a CC member.Bill1170 wrote:My understanding is that the blue G-10 Para sprint is an exclusive for BBS, so those bigger, thinner margin shops won't be selling any of them unless it is on the secondary market. You could give your good buddy in another state some money, he'll buy the knife then ship it to you. Is that illegal? Just a thought.Drkknight614 wrote:Resurecting this thread because I dont think its been disussed.
