I'm looking forward to experiencing 52100 steel myself. Even though I own hundreds of knives, I don't have any in 52100 yet.

I pre-ordered from KC about 6 months ago, and called them last week to update my credit card information since the original card I had given them was expiring. Today I see that the credit card authorization from KC went through, so I hope that means mine will be shipping soon.

I can get a decent edge on my knives, given enough time, though I am far from an expert. I have a couple of SharpMakers (original and current versions) and an Edge Pro and numerous bench stones, though I use the SharpMaker the most, I guess due to familiarity. Seems like y'all are saying this steel will do well with a pretty thin bevel?

Seriously, nicest Spydie I own. Very happy with it.
This is why I try to get a couple of these awesome pieces when they drop, one to use the crap out of and one to stash away for future admiration. :D

What was your pre-order date?

Just noticed my account has been charged for my KC order. I ordered mine in early January.

I can't really tell if this is some kind of rust forming or if there's apple residue left in these spots and they made some kind of funky splotch patina pattern. None of them are thick enough that they can be wiped or scratched off with my thumb nail so they're not rust by typical definition.

Water spots from a previous wash / air drying? I've seen similar spots on my S90V Military, which is very stainless, from heavily chlorinated drinkwater at a campsite. I had to remove it with metal polish and steel wool.

I guess so, not sure what else it could be. I'm tempted to polish it out and start over.

Checked my CC and sure enough it got charged today also, exact same pre-order date as yours. I think I'm going to cancel the other pre-order I have with KC that was placed a couple month later. I think I may have done it yet again and over done it on these 52100's :D

Nah, just keep using it. It will all blend together over time. ;)

+1. Seems to me this steel stains easily enough that the spots should be stained over or blended in with new patina soon enough.

Yeah I'm too lazy to polish it anyway. The only thing that does bother me about the patina is the first time I cut some apple, when I wiped the blade I wiped from tang to tip and it stained some streaks into the blade.

Pre Orders are so funny, I can still officially say I have never pre ordered and have never missed a sprint I wanted, the Blade HQ PM2 will be one to really test this principle but I still do not think I will have a problem because they are all coming from one dealer.....

Small update. I found my some batteries for my calipers and did some measurements.

Sharpened at a 12-13* per side edge:

Thickness behind the edge, at the heel of the blade, is about 0.020 - 0.021 inches thick

At the tip it tapers to around .015 inches thick. This seems thinner than other Militaries I have had. It seems in the past they generally averaged about .020" thick at the tip and around 0.026-0.028 inches thick near the heel.

I think .020 behind the edge is a great thickness for a production model like the millie! Should be a great slicer and still tough enough to handle pretty much anything.

I think the 204P version is very similar in thinness. Now my thickest are the BBS S90V and Cruwear versions.

I've had spots like those crop up on different knives over the years. I usually take a clean cloth and rub some paste wax in . It gets all the stuff off you can't even see until it's on the cloth and then of course seals the steel and makes it look beautiful. All of around 2 minutes work ( not counting getting out the wax and cloth). I have some knives I've stored for years like that and they have stayed looking shiny and new. Better than new actually. Care must be taken waxing the edges naturally. :)
