This is off my new 204P Para2. Not much looks better than an absolutely virgin edge, IMO. Sure, you can get sharper edges and more polished bevels yourself, but fresh ones look absolutely stunning. Sorta like getting a new book and you know you don't want to open it and break the pristine spine but you know the book will be such a good read you do it anyways. There's a lot to be said for a well loved edge/book but you can't overlook pristine new either :D
I agree with you 100% in all aspects - well summarized.

I'll get a set of shapton gs eventually, probably one coarse grit around p600, 8k, 16k and 36k, the gs can be used after the Nortons. 600 for micros and the others for polishing maybe. Hha. It's a months wage for a set that's the thing.

I have the 500#/1k/2k/4k/8k/16k/30k Shaptons GS EP mounted versions.

Seriously is a winner - the best stones I have used thus far.....

Well, this is a very modest result compared to some of yours, using DMT and SM UF. Not mirror finish but close, just to make people like Chuck smile... :)

Thank you, they could have been better shots if S90V Millie were not used even a little. Knowing how this one looks in person I can only imagine how awesome those ultra-polished blades are.

Still not as impressive as the edges of you crazy-low-angle-reprofiling-mirror-polishing people!

Just give it some time, you'll get deeper into the dark side. :D

After posting here yesterday I thought about taking my chipped, scratched and blunted Tenacious and make it look nicer as I did many time ago with my S90V Millie (obviously easier to get "semi-mirror finish" on this one). This was using M. F & UF on the SM, here compared to the green stock one:

Man, I need to get a sharpmaker.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Even with a Tenacious I was careful to get the best finish using the Sharpmaker, so maybe it's true. Next stop: Obsessive–compulsive reprofiling disorder... :)
