A co-worker amd I stopped by the SFO today and they had a few of these mystery boxes left. My co-worker bought one (my 2025 funds were all used up from the seconds sale) and we all got to live vicariously through the opening of the box.

He got:

- Lil’ Native 15V
- Para 3 Maxamet
- Siren

The combined seconds sale pricing was well above the price of entry. Definitely a score and I think we’ll see other boxes like this appearing soon.
The Spyderco nerd in me needs to know... Was it a blank box or was it printed specifically for the 2025 mystery box? :nerd
Haha, I think it was a plain box. They were numbered (most likely to keep track/counting) and he got #14.

It was funny to see him and Zeke (Spyderco machinist, sp?) pick up the boxes and give them a little shake to see if they could tell what was in them…and Zeke was the one who packed’em lol!

I heard 450 boxes sold, but I don’t know if that was just in store or total. I’m kinda thinking that was total, as I’m not sure they’d have 450 in person to buy.

I would have taken a pic but I forgot my phone. Speaking of pictures Nick…I think you still owe everyone a ‘Seconds Haul’ update! Your score was of epic proportions.
Ok thanks, good to know! Wasn't sure if I needed to try scalping a cardboard box off someone... :rofl

If I was buying in person, I probably would've done the same thing shaking the box for hints, so no judgment here! :grin-squint He must have heard something he liked in #14 because it sounds like he picked a good one. Very good value in that box and the 15V Lil Native is a win in my book.

Also I shipped my stuff back and it was just delivered a couple days ago, so I'm still going through everything but I'll post an update in the seconds thread soon! :cheap-sunglasses

Excited to get mine, and since I'm never going to get an opportunity to make it to the seconds sale in person I appreciate the chance that this offers.

I just received my Spy 27 Yojimbo from the Cyber Monday seconds sale. It just has a little lock stick, which time and usage will remedy. Thanks Spyderco. I appreciate the opportunity to get a nice knife at a nice price.

That’s not a bad box for the money. The Shaman really makes it, the Maxamet P3 and and Lil Native are nice extras - well done!

Got my mystery box. Much better than any of the others I've gotten in past years.

I think Spyderco nailed this. The non-locals were bemoaning the fact that they couldn’t be in town for the Seconds Sale, and no ‘online Seconds Sale’ but in years past Spyderco does an online Seconds Sale and it crashes the website and people bemoan that, so then this year they do the Mystery Boxes and a few select Seconds and put in knives over the Seconds value in the box and it’s a win for everyone. Plus they get to rid themselves of this over-abundance of Maxamet seconds.

I think the real question is…when these PM2 and Para 3 Maxamet seconds for $79 finally run out…are we going to actually miss them and regret not picking up more?

I got a Para 3 Maxamet second a few years ago and love it. Steel is amazing and the dark grey G10 looks great. If they had the PM2 Maxamet online I probably would have picked it up.

Plus being a second you’re more likely to use it and enjoy it since it’s already dinged, or something else. And the cost doesn’t make you second guess hard usage.

^^^^ This totally! No sock drawer knives for me - and why spend full retail if you can grab one of these!

I am pretty ecstatic about my box, the mix of knives shows someone definitely put the effort into giving some variety.

CruCarta Military 2 has a grind mark near the thumb ramp
Serrated H1 Pacific Salt 2 very light blade scratches
Micro Jimbo pivot feels to tight.

Pretty solid, I would be happy with that.

I feel like Spyderco absolutely nailed the boxes this year. I myself got a Para 3 maxamet, Para 3 s110v and a PM2 spy27 with two stickers. Felt like I got the PM Box haha. After seeing what other folks got on Reddit I'm pretty astounded. Somebody got the mega pull and got like 8 knives, and another got a subhilt in his. Definitely a fan of the boxes and it's a great to either get something you want, or try something completely new. :bug-red-white

Great job Golden team! I've been collecting knives for 8 years now. I've collected some fancy fance blades in that time but my Cos remain my most favorite, and used. Spyderco remains undefeated!

The perks of shopping in person are great but it still feels like I'm paying full asking price plus tax at the seconds sale in person just to subsidize all of these mystery box freebies. :downcast :thinking

I didn’t participate in the seconds sale or the mystery boxes this year. I’m very impressed with what I’m seeing in the mystery boxes. I was very vocal about my disappointment the first time they did it and they certainly got it right. Spyderco ownership has always been outstanding and they sell an amazing product.

The mystery boxes sound great. I'm feeling regret that I didn't purchase one when I had the chance. Next time!

Nick,

This is an interesting point and perhaps a thought simmering just below the surface for folks. What's funny is I didn't really think of it, but it definitely got brought up when I started talking to my wife about it - her first question after hearing about the mystery boxes was 'wait, so you stayed in line overnight and paid those prices, but all these folks could just order a box and get a better deal?' I'm also not the most economical Spyderco shopper since I like going to the SFO to pick up a new knife and handle a few out of group to find one I like and talk to the crew there, so I sort of view that as the benefit I get from paying retail, so my perspective is one of many different takes.

It's a tough one. She said that Spyderco should just send one of those mystery boxes as a freebee to the top paying customers at the Seconds Sale (of which you are probably a part of haha, and I am definitely not), but then you run into the 'reseller' issue.

EDIT: I realize that it's a hard balance to keep. No matter what, it is nearly impossible to make all groups happy. Maybe Spyderco was counteracting for the boxes they had in years past that didn't seem like nearly the same type of deal? My co-worker got a box this year, and we opened it there in the store - he got what I feel was an amazing deal, better than I got at the Seconds Sale and I came away quite happy for him, and knowing that he is now carrying mainly Spyderco and through this deal it might open up a larger world to him, so that is really cool. So at least from an aspect of 'new to knives/Spyderco', I think this level of deal has potential to win many over. Nick you would know better than I do since you've been around a lot longer; how do you think Spyderco does with its most loyal customers and what type of appreciation does it as a business show them, in your experience?

Maybe there is a way to even the playing field at the in-person event by offering like a '50% off any 1 single knife for anyone paying over XXX', or have some of these mystery boxes available that day, or I dunno. But some more in-person engagement. There is a lot more investment from the folks that come to the Seconds Sale, or even stay overnight, or stay over multiple nights, or even fly in from thousands of miles away.

I think it's fair that the boxes have more value as they are a random product. Also the limit of 1 per person is a huge bonus as it guarantees more people get to participate. Ebay has individual sellers flipping 20+ 2nds knives, that is a bigger issue.
