I'm happy with the clips right where they are. I won't carry anything tip up . Except the occasional lockback with a bias to keep it closed. I got bit badly once long ago and it cured me. All PM 2's and 3's are tip down and staying that way.Sal invented the pocket clip and can put it wherever the **** he wants it. I'm just trying to point out to him it is not where his customers want it.

Just one thing to do then!
We need a date for an assembly at Spyderco. We have to assemble at the foot of SFO with a raiding party, megaphones and signs!!!! This will be our raiding party ... they have to meet our demands.
We have petitioned the King, his Son, Dukes and servants. We hold these Truths to be self evident, that NO MAN shall carry a blade tip-down.

Re: Sal - YOU are not listening to us
It is exactly like the founding of America. Sal gave us this pocket clip (brits coming to America). We must now be freed from the tyranny from tip down being opposed up on us! We want freedom of clip placement on Spyderco Militaries and PM2's without torque bits and loctite required!Naperville wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 6:10 pmJust one thing to do then!![]()

Excuse me. Did you miss the part where I said I switched my Maxamet PM2 to tip-down? For the most part, I have no preference, but I don't like the PM2 tip-up.Perhaps_OCD? wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 5:42 pmLots of defensive posts. No one has yet to say they prefer tip down. Odd.
Re: Sal - YOU are not listening to us
Tip up or tip down for me depends on the knife. Even if the Military came with a tip up option, I’d still prefer it tip down. And I always carry any of my Police models tip down.
I switched my PM2’s to tip up, but I can take them either way.
No big deal. If I don’t like the clip position and it has another option, I simply switch it. I don’t know if most people like their knives tip up or tip down, because I don’t know most people who carry knives. But I’m pretty sure that most do not post or even browse on knife forums to give their opinions.

Ah so it's lack of changing something because, "that how it's always been", & you also proved it has nothing to do with how their customers want the clip to be positioned, it's designers preference. The input of customers have nothing to do with it / they don't listen to them. Thanks man. That settles it. Sorry if I stated the obvious by saying he wasn't listening to customers.Sharp Guy wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 6:14 pmFrom Michael Janich...

Sorry man! I meant none of the defensive posts up to that point were arguing that tip down was how they carry. I 100% believe some people like tip down. My brother is one of them. We hate each other. I didnt feel like reading through all the garbage, but I'm wondering...what's so difficult about changing the clip orientation, it's 3 screws!

EVERYONE! It's been great. Thanks for making this the 2021 clip position awareness thread. It's been an interesting several hours.
I sharpened several knives while at my desk chatting. I HIGHLY recommend a wicked edge to supplement your sharpmaker as long as it doesn't keep you from a Spyderco you want to buy.

Re: Sal - YOU are not listening to us
I've owned more in the past but I currently own 4- a production S110V and 3 exclusives- 2 in M4 and 1 in K390. I want all of mine to be TIP DOWN.
I know that most forum members say that they prefer tip up, we have no information regarding the other buyers who aren't forum members. There is a big difference in the functionality of the knife between tip up and tip down but people can get used to it. I have a number of Manix 2 that can only be tip up and I got used to them and I carry and use them, but a PM2 tip down works much better. I wonder if someone that prefers tip up actually uses the knife. Maybe they just put them in the drawer and never actually carry them. I've seen a lot of PM2 for sale where the owner bought the knife, switched the clip to tip up, and never actually carried or used the knife.
For awhile I didn't buy knives that were tip up, I just ignored them, but I was attracted to the Manix 2 and wanted to try it. Now I own and use 7 of them. A person that doesn't like tip down doesn't have to buy a PM2, they can buy a Manix 2 or any number of other models that Spyderco makes.

Re: Sal - YOU are not listening to us
Moving the clip on that copper-handled knife suggests that you are going to carry it. With carry, that copper should develop a patina that will make those tiny marks disappear.
Re: Sal - YOU are not listening to us
In my time on this earth, IRL I've never seen any knife owner swap a knife clip, let alone own a T6 bit... I'm in the land of Case knives or gas station specials tho.
Re: Sal - YOU are not listening to us
Spyderco listens to their customers more than any other company I've ever dealt with. Most of the models they sell come configured tip up. I don't see why they can't keep shipping the PM2 tip down if that's what they want. It is their company after all. When you start your OCD knife company you can make all the tip up knives you want.Perhaps_OCD? wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 6:36 pmAh so it's lack of changing something because, "that how it's always been", & you also proved it has nothing to do with how their customers want the clip to be positioned, it's designers preference. Re: Sal - YOU are not listening to us
I don't have a strong opinion either way, but I can appreciate the OP's concern. However, I do think rephrasing the request from a positive angle might be better received vs. "You aren't listening to us." You know, something about catching more flies with honey and all that.

Re: Sal - YOU are not listening to us
This has to be the most trivial complaint I’ve ever seen here.
Re: Sal - YOU are not listening to us
This was my first thought exactly.
I also don’t think we should lose sight of the fact that we are ABLE to switch the clip to the orientation we want. Righty, lefty, tip up, tip down. I don’t mind switching a clip. Especially if it means Spyderco can sell more knives because they can accommodate more people and more preferences. Like others have said, it’s 3 screws.
I carry all of my knives tip down. It feels more natural coming out of my pocket that way. As others have mentioned in other posts, I also think it’s safer to carry tip down with a compression lock if you are a very active person. I’ve never worried about any of my backlocks coming open in my pocket but it’s definitely possible with a tip up, compression lock knife.
As far as Sal not listening, I can’t think of any other company where the owner regularly chimes in and engages with his or her customers. We wouldn’t have nearly as many models, options, and blade steels if Sal wasn’t listening.
