Where's the like button for that Delica Wharnie? Very nice. I think I need one.Jazz wrote:At home I'll cut up fruit, rags, string, packaging, open mail - piddly stuff, but at work, as this vid shows, a bit more (here with Delica wharnie proto, for anyone who hasn't heard of it)...

You, sir, are an EDC ninja!
That was much better than the Ginsu commercials from the (70's or 80's??). Funny story on that...they used to show those things chopping into wood, cutting aluminum cans, etc and then slicing a tomato. So my buddy took his mom's and wailed on a log in the yard. One look at the mangled teeth as a result and his sinking facial expression was priceless. Haha

Housekeeping, yard-tending, and just being out-and-about can each present the retired me with tasks that a Spydie will be good at solving. No revelation to anyone here.
If I happen to have been fondling my EDC Spydie, as I often do, and forget to pocket it before I go into another room, or out to a garden, or off on a dog walk, I literally feel uncomfortable. I'm unready, and I hate this feeling.
So, just remembering to pocket a Manix2 or a PM2 (or a more specialized Spydie) is really my most common EDC "task". It readies me for a bunch of real ones.

Work in office at keyboard all day programming routers and switches, so not much need for a knife. So, most of my tasks are just admiring my knives. If you ever buy a knife from me it would be like getting a '57 Chevy with 2 miles on the odometer.
Re: What is your most common EDC task?
I have such a wide array of cutting chores that I really don't know where I would begin. It depends on what Job I have that given day or what type of help I give my neighbors and friends. And yes I do fish and hunt when I get the chance and you guessed it all my buddies lean on me to sharpen their knives
It's amazing how many people I run into that really don't have a clue as to how to sharpen knives  I forced myself to be a sharpening fanatic quite a few years ago because I discovered that no matter what your cutting chores are a dull knife is truly about the most useless tool on the planet.
I have about 2 out of 5 cutting jobs that require the use of Spyderedged blades. And I do my share of work with plain edged Spyders as well. To put my answer in perspective I would be better off listing stuff I haven't yet done with a knife>> which isn't a big list I can assure you.

In order of frequency:
Opening packaging or breaking down boxes.
Food prep.
Gardening or yard work. I love jumping in the fish pond and trimming water lilies with a PM2.

Opening mail and cutting up boxes top the list. But cutting cords/rope, cutting out coupons, and this past weekend cutting off the head of a 6+ foot snake that was living in my basement and would not leave (I relocated him into the woods and he came back!).
