Also would you like to see a G-10 Spyderhawk along side a G-10 Harpy??? I know I'm not alone with that one ;)
A G-10 Spyderhawk would be a BEAST of a knife, to be sure. There is a part of me that would be thrilled in seeing one of those monsters done with full liners and a D2 tool steel blade. That said, realistically, I would be happy with one in G-10 scales with VG-10 steel - it's a proven combination that is realistically difficult to improve upon.

I'm also a sucker for the ZDP-189/420J2 combination, but Sal would probably shake his head sadly over such a suggestion, not that I would blame him. ;)

Maybe PSF 27 instead of D2 to build on what the mule team learned with that mule.
That would just be outright COOL "Ryno" to have one of the Hawkbills be done in different blade steels like the Mule Team project. It would be most interesting to see which steels would perform the best in pull cutting along with SE and PE variations as well. I've yet to use the steel you suggested but I'm sure it must be a nice selection if they used it on a Mule Team model.

I've also been screaming for years for Spyderco to do one of their Hawkbill models in GOLDEN, CO, USA Earth. It would seem to be appropriate for one of Spyderco's premier designs to be made at the GOLDEN plant IMO. The possibilities are intriguing to say the least. But NOW would be the time for sure ;)

I like the idea of a hawkbill in an high hardness or wear resistant, high carbide steel but I have reservations about sharpening it. You are kinda stuck sharpening a hawkbill on crock sticks like the sharpmaker. If the blade were to get damaged, repairing it might not go so well or might take ages.

There are two other sharpening options for sharpening Hawkbill blades. First off you have Spyderco's legendary 204 Sharpmaker which for all intent and purposes does a relatively decent job. However the older/discontinued Spyderco 701 Profile set is my favorite for sharpening Spyderedged Hawkbills. And don't forget the GOLDENSTONE which is still available and is said to be a great option for sharpening Spyderedges.

I love your line of thought because a dull knife regardless of design is almost useless in many cases. If I can't sharpen it then I don't want it. Most Hawkbills are not that difficult to sharpen. There are some tricks to getting a Hawkbill blade really sharp but it just takes time and common sense and keeping your angle right.

DMT has some diamond sharpening tools that I've used for really beat up edges on Hawkbill blades. As well as ULTIMATE EDGE and a couple of other companies I could name.

Well this Dfly hawkbill can't come soon enough, seems I've lost my hawkbill Ladybug :(

I had it clipped to the outside of my EDC bag and it's gone. Kinda hard to believe that after carrying it on my keys for the last 5+ years on a S biner that now the dang thing somehow came unclipped.

Oh well. Hopefully someone finds it and enjoys it like I have. Maybe I'll get lucky and find it in my car or something.

I'm sorry for your loss. So small will be hard to find, but the color should help, good luck!

As for the H1 in the works, I'd be happy with either small Spydies, but I think most of us here were looking for something bigger, like a Superhawk, Matriarch or Civilian or Spyderhawk/large hawkbill in H1, having only smaller hawks in that steel after the Spyderhawk was discontinued.

Nothing to say on those, Mr. Glesser?

Thanks

Well being there is so much celebration and fanfare over this proposed H-1 Dragonfly hawkbill I can't help but think in another direction where Nitrogen Based Steels are concerned.

So what about a beefed up G-10 Harpy with LC200N???? This would be the best of three different objectives and would be a grand way to bring back the LONG OVERDUE G-10 HARPY  With the G-10 Police not only making it back to the main line up it would only stand to reason that the G-10 Harpy get it's well deserved return to stardom

Actually I would be really interested to see how the Harpy would do in a completely new format.

Also consider a Spyderedged SUPERHAWK with G-10, LC200N and SE of course. Yeah Now's the Time!

Well looks like I'll be buying at least one of those SE H1 dragonhawks. Just wish the spyderhawk was coming back in any variation.

That's a great point VASH because I do believe that the Spyderhawk if it were brought back has gained so much more popularity in the past two years or so that it would sell great no matter what steel or handle material they used>> I'm more than certain of it.

I would bet if they even brought back the original VG-10 black/blue handle format that it would be a sure success and would sell very well in gardening catalogs as well as outdoor catalogs too.

But like the Good Doctor Hannibal Lecter M.D. said in so many words that a G-10 Spyderhawk would truly be the crème-de-le-crème of Hawkbills for sure>> that would take a real Spyder-Classic to a higher level and would entice many who previously never owned a good Spyderco Hawkbill.

With Christmas a mere 6 months away just imagine what a colossal gift set a G-10 Harpy and G-10 Spyderhawk would be for the knife lover on your Christmas list :spyder: I would take that over a Swiss made watch any day of the week :D

If that was even a possibilty, I assure you all I'd make some Hawkbill and Spyderco lovers out of my friends. There would be Hawkbills, Spyderhawks and G10 Harpys in every darn box I could gift, hoping to get some people started on all of this and luckily converting some folks to this brand, and this blade shape!

Spyderhawk in G10, crème-de la crème doesn't describe it better. Are you there, Sal? :D

H1 Dragonfly hawkbill or H1 Meerkat -- either way, I am thrilled!! !

What about a H1 Dragonfly with a Meerkat-type S-curve blade? :D

Well Clovisc you seem to get your wish because it seems just like yesterday when you requested Sal to come up with an H-1 Spyderhawk>> that was a great wish come true and I still value it as one of my favorite user knives. Why might I ask you are not gravitating toward a larger Hawkbill  ?? I would think that up in your nect of the woods a bigger knife ( especially in the Hawkbill sector) would serve your purposes much better.

Actually I'm anxious to see what one of the bigger Spyderco hawkbill models would perform like with the LC200N or maybe one of the other nitrogen based steels. Also I'm wondering why no one as of yet has mentioned a "fixed blade Hawkbill" in this thread?

As far as larger hawkbills go, i would love a g10 handled, supersteel, spyderedge, emerson opener hawkbill. (normal handle, not karambit style)
