I could live with wood scales. Not sure why you guys want material that's so heavy, like brass and copper. For people that actually carry the knife, having a small knife that's that heavy is probably not desired on a large scale.
Now, if all you do with your knives is fondle them from time to time and then put them back in storage........................

Re: New Chaparral in 2016?
The Techno is small and heavy and it seems plenty popular and it seems like many people carry theirs rather than just fondling them. I would say that weight is not that important in a knife this size. The first three were all plenty light and the proposed FRN one will be too. A copper/bronze one should come in light enough being so thin, at least lighter than the Techno. Just a matter of different stroke for different folks. I carry my Ti Military as much as my G10 Military because to me the weight isn't a big deal and I love the heft in hand.this_is_nascar wrote:I could live with wood scales. Sometimes I like the feel of a solid piece of equipment/tool in my pocket, doesn't bother me at all. :D
Happy to be part of this great forum and group of down to earth spyderco addicts, Thanks Sal and gang.

I will second that. I usually carry a Tusk loosely in my right front pocket and really never know it's even there until I need it.farnorthdan wrote:Sometimes I like the feel of a solid piece of equipment/tool in my pocket, doesn't bother me at all. :D

My titanium Chaps are the ones I carry the most. I just like the solid feel and heft of them. The weight doesn't bother at all, especially since I usually have a Mule or my titanium Military in my back pocket. The actual difference in weight between the CF and Ti Chaps is minimal but the feel in hand is much different, at least to me.
We all have our favorites, as it should be. :)
Re: New Chaparral in 2016?
My C83 Persian is more than twice as heavy as chap, still it was carried daily for almost 10 years, cut a lot of staff and I never felt that it is heavy. It is great in all senses.this_is_nascar wrote:I could live with wood scales. Not sure why you guys want material that's so heavy, like brass and copper. Re: New Chaparral in 2016?
I'm with you on this one, Paul. The backlock Sage was the one I was most looking forward to, until I saw that row of screwheads running right down the middle of the knife. I almost couldn't bring myself to buy one. I finally told myself that it wouldn't be so bad in person. It turned out I was lying. I never could bring myself to carry it after I had it in hand. It went straight back into its box and into the storage chest. I sure wish it had looked like your first picture instead. The Deacon wrote:Hi Sal, the simplest way is with photos.sal wrote:Hi Paul,

This would have been elegant....
The reality, on the other hand, is sad...
Schempp Persian and Kris, Micro Dyad, Kiwi, bolstered CF Caly 3, and that beautiful Stretch you sent me would all be examples of knives with elegant bolsters as well.

No need to be hatin' on the collectors. They are part of the market too. I am more of a hoarder I guess. :o
Not hatin' at all. Sorry if it came off that way. All I want to see changed is a different material for scales. Wood would be nice. I'm not really wanted much added weight.

I got in on that Mass Drop as well and wouldn't mind a copper-clad Spyderco to go along with it.farnorthdan wrote:I just ordered a Cu maratac flashlight from mass drop, really like the way these parina. Re: New Chaparral in 2016?
I would be interested in another Chaparral in glass fiber or a different form of CF than the first version. I would also go for a wood scale, f nicely done. It is purely subjective, but I am not interested in metal scales.
The nice thing about the Chaparral is the combination of compact size, utility, and light weight. I would also be interests in another run of the Rookie.

Re: New Chaparral in 2016?
I'll definitely be interested in any wood, frn, MAYBE a different CF, bronze, copper, etc

It's not that heavy for a small knife. I have a copper and ti frame lock in a similar size and it's quite reasonable.this_is_nascar wrote:I could live with wood scales. Copper is about the same weight as steel and Spyderco still makes SS knives. These feel substantial and are slick but I've never considered the small ones heavy.
Replacing the CF scales of the Chap with copper, bronze, or brass ones would only make it a bit heavier. The knife is only 2.5oz so even if pushed to 3oz nobody is going to tell the difference.

My chap 2 is probably my overall most carried knife over the last 3 years. Nothing against Ti but I think 2 Ti handle chaps is enough. Spyderco should be showing different materials imoSpyderNut wrote:Just curious: What don't you care for on the Ti version?Holland wrote:I most likely won't buy another Ti version though

First I've heard of C-Tek, looks very interesting. Anyone have any experience with it?sal wrote:That's one of the new materials we're playing with. Waiting on samples.GoldenSpydie wrote:Hi Sal,

Also I think that it will hard to beat Chap3. It is time for wood, bone and stag. :)
