I forget. The whole set up was less than two decent knives and can hold well over 150 folders. Was a pain to purchase as it kept me from buying more knives but I quickly forgot about it. As I recall the material was about $80.00 and the box about $150. Just a guess.

That is very reasonable. And would you be able to recall where you got it?

A few are kept in their boxes, for one reason or another. Another few are simply scattered about the house, so that I always have a knife handy without having to carry one about with me. But the majority of the knives in my collection are divided up between, and displayed in, three curio cabinets, so that I can enjoy looking at them.

Knives can be looked at in many ways. Some see them as weapons, and nothing more, while others see them as tools, and nothing more. But they can also be seen as art and either displayed like small statuary or carried as a form of functional jewelry.

I store many of mine in a pelican case, vertically, with an individually cut slot for each knife. I think there's a picture of the set-up somewhere on here. Pelican cases are a bit expensive, but I like that I could just shut the lid and my knives are suddenly in bombproof transportation mode. It's somewhat size limited, though, so it wouldn't be a good solution for some of the more prodigious collections. Also, you have to cut the slot each time you get a new knife, and selling old ones leaves a slot to be filled by a similar sized knife. I don't sell very often though so that's not much of an issue.

No special care for cleaning/oiling, and many are put away with tape residue, although I always dry any wet knives, or wash off any liquids. The rest are in various places: on my desk, next to my bed, in my office drawer, in my glovebox, and in my pocket/waistband!

That is a very impressive collection. And those knife display cases are beautiful. I might have to start greasing the wheels with the wife about something along those lines. How long have you been collecting? Surfingringo pointed out that philosophy to me in an earlier post. I too consider knives as art however it never crossed my mind that their functionality is also an art form. This post has been very imformative on many levels so thank you for sharing.

Yes I believe I have seen the Pelican setup. Possibly even yours. As I stated I have done a lot of research on care and storage but I couldn't find anything recently posted and specific enough. This has definitely demonstrated that these knives aren't as delicate and prone to wear as I thought. I just wasn't willing to risk it to find out! Lol

Well I'm glad we got that out of the way :D! Yes, treat your spydies like the high quality tools that they are, and they won't let you down. Clean them when they get dirty, dry them when they get wet, sharpen them when they get dull. Other than that they won't benefit from a whole lot of fussing.

I keep most of my knives in my closet inside the containers seen below. Each drawer is lined with some of the padded foam that ships with the knife from Spyderco. I just cut them to size. They seem to store just fine that way. Both of these cases were bought from Home Depot for about 20-30 bucks each.

Then I have this box next to my bed for those knives that are in my current rotation. The box was from my local grocery store, originally made for holding tea. Cost about 10 bucks.

Well change into your work boots, because keeping up with all of Spyderco's phenomenal designs is going to require a second job!

Seriously! So many "must haves" left to buy and that's just the current ones. Trying to convince my wife that I NEED MORE AND MORE.

Love the tea box LC.

I just keep my collection a large Spydie pack hanging in the back of my gun safe.

As for maintenance just clean and whatever oil is handy when they get dirty. Keep them very sharp though. Here is a picture of my storage.

On my radar: 110V Military, Police 4 and some sweet Rex 45 Military action.

Newest Spydies: S90v Ti Military, Pacific Salt and a special Kiwi.
