I love the clip on the stainless handled models that I have, but I have had two FRN models that I have snagged the clip and torn the plastic out around the clip. ( the part that keeps the clip from rotating, if that makes sense.i have to admit I do like g10 better than frn as well.
I hear you "v8r" because I'm not the biggest fan of the barrel-bolt clips either. And I really like your idea of making one of more models in the H-1 Salt Series with a titanium handle or even titanium liners for that manner. Sure it would catapult the price just a bit but think of how ridgid and solid the folder or fixed blade would be.
For the H-1 Salt Series I would personally recommend a wire type clip like the ones on my Dodo models. Or even a clip similar to the ones they used on the Gunting models of the past. I agree that the barrel-bolt clips have a lot to be desired. Another thing about really good liners that I like on a folder is that they seem to clean up easier than folders without them.
Construction similar to a military would be ideal. You could have short TI liners near the front( nestled of course) nestle a plate in the rear for clip attachment. Better yet just build a H1 military and problem solved. Banana yellow g10 is a must as well. How sick would that be

Opinions are like belly buttons most people have one:p
This is extremely interesting from a couple of standpoints>> first of all there are a lot more people each day either wanting to see the Paramilitary model or even the Military model in H-1. Second this would fill the void for many of you who want to see the Military come back in the main line up in full Spyderedge.
I too would like to see the C-36 Military and/or the Paramilitary models be offered in the H-1 Salt Series. When I had the Military model in full SE with 440V steel it was one of my all time favorite SE Spyders ever. I just took for granted that it would always be offered up in Spyderedge and when I traded it I didn't realize that I would never see one in full SE again.
But to have one or both of these models in H-1 and make them available in PE & SE would truly be a great move for Spyderco and like when they made the Spyderhawk return in the H-1 Salt Series it became a good seller the second go around. I truly think the Military and PM both would do great in the H-1 Salt Series but only if they would also offer it up in full SE. H-1 has been documented as being a great blade steel for Spyderedged models. This would make several Spyderco folder fans very happy and could make Spyderco a lot of $$$. Let's see what comes about.

Could you imagine a PM2 with H1 and yellow g10 scales!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
My Salt-1....that I believe is somewhere around 6 or 7 years old now. It did not have the H-1 logo on the blade.

H1 is not my favourite steel by far for PE knives, but I like it a whole lot when corrosion resistance is necessary.
I find it works really well with serrations (because its tough but sharpens easily), so if I had to choose a serrated knife, H1 would be my first choice.
This little DF excels at peeling lychee's, and if I go cycling it always rides along.

I don't have much experience with H1... yet. I just got a SE Dragonfly Salt for Father's Day. I'm loving it so far. This is also my first full SE Spyderco, so I'm not completely sure what makes this little guy so beastly. It shreds just about anything it touches with ease. Here it is with a friend's Tasman Salt.

Not only could I imagine it I would absolutely love it!!! I will go on to say however that they should also offer it up in a BLACE G-10 handle as well because for some unbeknownst reason there are a lot of people who just can't stand the color YELLOW. Now YELLOW is not my favorite color but I do like it on knife handles because it makes the knife extremely easy to find if you misplace it or GOD forbid it would fall into a stream or lake.
Bring it on!!! Is all I can say at this point. But it absolutely would have to be offered up in Spyderedge or to me it just wouldn't be right. Because they have proven that H-1 steel does indeed make for great, durable Spyderedges so why would you not do it? I'm also hoping that they will do a Fixed Blade Hawkbill in H-1 some time down the road. Hey that's thread material isn't it :D

I think that Spyderco only uses USA-made steels in the Golden knives, so H1 in a PM2 or Manix seems unlikely.
But understand something here>> it wouldn't be the first time that they took one of the Golden CO USA Earth knives and had it made in Japan instead of here at the USA. The original Renegade & Blackhawk models were first made here at Golden CO USA Earth but the later models were Seki City Japan made. The same goes with the original Meerkat>> the original Meerkat was made at Golden CO USA with 440C steel and then they switched to Japan made with AUS-6. I'll have to do some digging but I know there are some more models that they did also switched venues and blade steels.
It can be done if enough people want it done. Bubble not popped yet.

True indeed. I doubt that they would move them but you never know. I would love a PM2 salt myself, but I just can't see it.

Sort of. The blades were made in Golden (I think?) and assembled by Camillus in NY, then sold through TNK. ETA: Now wait: I'm talking about the BRK Native. Was the BRK different from the Walmart Native?
Invective wrote:They've recently used BU M390 in the PM2 and Military and only just recently made the switch to BD-1 as opposed to Gin-1 in the UKPKs.
That is true as well.
I was basing my statement off of a quote by Sal...but now I can't seem to find it.
Anyway, you all seem to have good points that I overlooked, so never mind. :o
Evil D wrote:Wasn't the Walmart Native made somewhere else too? I don't recall where but I'm pretty sure it wasn't Golden.
No I believe it was a Golden CO USA Earth Native with S30V. I had 2 friends that bought that knife from Rip-Mart and they me it was a Golden CO made Native when I asked them about it. Now I'm taking their word for it because I never owned one of those. I had heard it was a huge, high volume deal that the Great Spyder Factory made with Rip-mart and a way to introduce their product to big retailers is what I mainly remember about it.
As far as I know it was the only knife they ever sold through Rip-mart. Now I've been seeing many 204 Sharpmakers at Cabelas and Bass Pro here in Kansas City. Other than that it is hard to find any Spyders for sale other than Delicas and Enduras here in Kansas City, Missouri USA.
In response to Golden Spydies observation that the Rip-mart Native had it's blade made by Camillus>> I had heard that Camillus had indeed was contracted to make a Native model for Spyderco but I had heard it was the really old ( 1990s) model with 440A blade steel. I actually had one of those once and I gave it to my Nephew because I couldn't get that blade to hold an edge no matter what. Now I am 99% certain that old 440A Native was made by Camillus at the time. But I never heard that about the Rip-mart Native.
I asked because I did buy one, in fact it was my first Spyderco. Funny story though, it had NO engraving on it aside from Spyderco and S30V, no bug or "Golden..." on the opposite side. This lead me to believe it may have been a cheap knockoff, so I returned it to Walmart and went to another place and bought the SE version, which I still own today. I just remember it not having the bug logo or country of origin engraved anywhere on the blade.
