My old laptop runs with XP. I've had the blue screen of death a couple of times in the last year, so I'm changing things over now. Got a new 7 machine at work last month and am using it now (engineering & business stuff) at the job. At home, the family of my buddy who died gave me his computer to use, also a 7 machine, so I've transferred most of my home stuff to it now. I run a backup drive, so the change wasn't too bad. Not quite through yet, but I'm getting there. Don't want to have problems in April, so I'm making the change now, ugh.

defenestrate wrote:I still think the FP scanner built in is cool and pretty advanced. Biometrics devices are only now really getting wider adoption outside of higher end and government-funded security. I'll try and look at the model and if there is a relatively easy way to do it I'll try to help. Open source software really is worth the effort.
That's very nice of you, thank you.

I've just looked at the label underneath, it's a Satellite U200 - 115, if that's of any help.

I would guess this is a real dilemma for PSAs. The cost of upgrading could be very significant. On the other hand, if anything even remotely unfortunate happens and it can be tied to hardware/software performance, people could be injured or die and the agency will be crucified.

We usually get a contract with a company and they handle the upgrades and so on. We only pay a yearly or monthly fee to that company. But yes, constantly having to interrupt work to upgrade is a pain in the ***.
