My guess, and it's just a guess, is that where SlipIts are concerned there will be deals to be had on the Terzuola, Urban and SE FRN UKPKs but probably not on the CF and Ti UKPKs. My thinking is that those two were probably produced in limited numbers, so there's little or no "excess stock" to clear.shotcaller88 wrote:In previous years, were there deals to be had on the discontinued models?
I'm wondering if I should buy now because prices will go up once discontinued or if they will be available for lower clearance prices.
In particular the green urban & cf ukpk.

I just noticed the ByrdRench is being discontinued. If you like multi-tools I suggest you get one before they are all gone. I have the SpydeRench and like it a whole lot. It's not my favorite because the slip joint pliers are only 2/3rds good and 1/3rd bad because of the way the jaws line up. This is necessary due to design. Also, you can't squeeze the handles hard because it will hurt the hands when using a lot of pressure. But what is really great about the tool is the adjustable wrench and the screwdriver uses standard 1/4" screwdriver tips enabling you to convert it to a socket driver with an adapter (not included) or carry any tips you normally need. And the knife is much stronger than any multi-tool knife blade I've seen. Also, you can take it apart and use the adjustable wrench and screwdriver as two tools. So, with one tool you can hold the nut and screw the bolt into the nut. I can pair the SpydeRench with a SOG PowerLock and have a fairly complete set of tools that would normally be in a small tool box.
Anyway, the ByrdRench only has a couple of differences from the SpydeRench and the truely useful things about the tool are available on the ByrdRench.

Something better in the pipeline?
On the "Duckfoot" and the 701 Profiles the only thing at all that makes sense to me is that they must have something new in the pipeline to replace these great sharpening tools
The 701 Profiles have truly been one of my favorite Spyderco sharpening tools I've ever owned. In many ways I like them even more than the 204 Sharpmaker.
Those 701 Profiles have more versatility than just about any sharpening tool I've ever encountered.
OK I know I'm a lot more into sharpening than 90% of the guys & gals here on the Forum. But if your blade isn't sharp you don't have a cutting tool at all. Spyders or any other great knife for that matter are only as good as they are sharp. A dull knife is probably one of the most useless tools on the planet.
Holiday depression is setting in bad now since I've seen the discontinued list of 2012

Long Live the SPYDEREDGE Spyderco Hawkbills RULE!!
I have a feeling that the Spyderhawks will come out with a different steel and different color. At least I definately hope so. It's time to pick them up if you don't have one or both, but I am anxious to get a Spyderhawk VG-10 blade with black FRN or G-10 handle or some other combo.rodloos wrote:I'm surprised to see the Spyderhawks on the list. I have both a PE and SE, and while I don't use them everyday, I'd sure miss them if I didn't have them. I'm tempted to pick up another for a spare. I felt they were priced to be very affordable!

Not so sure about that. They were a poor seller when they first came out in black FRN/VG-10, the blue FRN/VG-10 version went over like a lead balloon, and the yellow FRN/H-1 version obviously hasn't sold well. What's left?BAL wrote:I have a feeling that the Spyderhawks will come out with a different steel and different color. At least I definately hope so. At some point, no matter how much we of the "afi" community like something, we have to accept that the general knife buying public does not share our enthusiasm and that we alone are not a sustainable market. I could be wrong but, IMHO, the only way we'll see the Spyderhawk again would be via a sponsored run, and that's a long shot at best.

They do, the Golden Stone is just like the Duckfoot, except for the fact that it's a white ceramice 'fine' stone.JD Spydo wrote:On the "Duckfoot" and the 701 Profiles the only thing at all that makes sense to me is that they must have something new in the pipeline to replace these great sharpening tools
You may well be correct Deacon, I guess that I need to pick a Spyderhawk PE to go along with the SE that's in my pocket. The Deacon wrote:Not so sure about that. With only rare exceptions, poor sales are the reason a product is retired. Hard to say why one product sells and another doesn't but I'd guess that was the case with the Citadel and, if so, the good news would be that the Embassy must be selling reasonably well.trackstar55 wrote:I am going to have to get a Citadel as well. I wonder why the Embassy is staying and the Citadel is leaving. Anyway, I am going to get a Citadel.
