David Lowry wrote:That is a really nice job. I gotta tell ya, I want to go buy one so I can do just that. Seems like it would be the best of both worlds. Hefty and grippy too.

Nice job.
Thanks, bro. Good to see you're back around. I say do it - you'll like it. It's still hefty, but a nice change once in a while. I'm still contemplating doing your mod to my UKPK - the groove so it opens easier. My black one is hard to open, and the hole isn't sharp enough for my liking, which doesn't help. I'm kinda leary of working with the G10 though - that's what's keeping me from doing it. Did it make that much difference with ease of opening on your's?

- best wishes, Jazz.

P.S. Thank you, THG.

Jazz, you did a beautiful job on those SS scales. Very nice. Image

I'm also interested in the finger groove mod you asked David L. about. I'd like that on my Caly 3 G10, but I'm not the handiest guy and I really don't want to screw up a beautiful knife.

Thank you, sir! I hope he replies. His looked great, and looked like it worked better. I know he used a large half round file, but I'm not sure what else. Careful though, once you start modding you can't quit, even if Sal's designs are already perfect as they are. :)

- best wishes, Jazz.

Thanks brother. Yeah I got busy and was away for a while.

Yeah, the mod was easy. I'm probably going to do a little tutorial on it. I lost all of the pictures that I had so I will be starting over.

It did help opening it quite a bit for me. Mainly because without the groove I could never get my entire thumb touching the hole.

Peace!

Also, thanks to you AJF. And I don't know if you can do it with a Caly 3 as easily being that it has steel liners. I think it could be done but you'd have to take your time and either grove the steel liner too or just try to only do the scale.

Good point. If I did it, I was going to try to go shallow with the cut-out and not reach the liner. But, no hurry---I'd like to see your tutorial first!

Thanks, cosmo7809. Yep, I started that thread when I began wondering about this a few weeks ago. Still pondering....my wife says I'm a "slow decider". :D
