My wife was always borrowing a knife to open diaper boxes, cut toy packaging, cut up fruit for the kids in the park etc. So I bought her a pink delica for her diaper bag -- she has carried it ever since.

I sure love my wife but.... she has gone through at least 5 keychain Victorinox knives since we've been married. She keeps dropping her keys so much the scales break and she loses the toothpick and tweezers too. So I decided to give her a purple Ladybug which I know could take the drops and other abuse. Well, what does she do? She promptly loaned her car keys to her dad who was going to the airport and got it confiscated. I worry that if I gave her something Delica-sized, it would end up in the black hole called her purse and that would be the end as we know it of that knife. She likes her two Spyderco kitchen knives and gets Spyder-bit at least twice a year cutting toward her fingers like her mom. Did I mention she's stubborn like my mother-in-law and will not adopt new cutting techniques that I show her? :p Oh well, she knows if I'm anywhere near, I always have at least 2-3 knives with me at all times, rain or shine, and I can manage all her loose threads and package opening needs.

Good luck with your girlfriends and wives. :D

LOLOLOLOL Hiredgun. We all chose the beautiful beings we are with. And I believe we all love them :) :) Tough to get the women used to knives sometimes.

That black hole can be intimidating, I know..lolol

Wasn't my girlfriend, but just a female friend.
She saw a picture of my Civilian and instantly fell in love.

She is now the proud owner of her own Spyderco Civilian :D
She also has a custom dyed Purple Delica which I gifted her and she carries on or the other regularly.

I think the "cute" factor got her to initially carry it, and then the utility she soon discovered in always having a knife soon followed.
+1

That is what I got for my girlfriend and she loves it and carries it all the time. This last weekend we were at the lake just sitting by the fire whittling sticks and she was proud of her Spydie :D

The Bug is the answer!

I had to get my wife and three daughters to carry knives.
(wife is 54, daughters two are 24, and one is 27)

They refused for years, then I finally showed them the bug and they all wanted one on their key chain!!!

Now I have to figure out how to get them to move up to a Military???
Any advice?

I just can't believe any of you guys. In my house I'm king. If I want my wife to carry a Spyderco or to do anything else for that matter I just tell her. I'd just say "Here woman, I want you to carry this knife with you at all times, or else you'll be sorry." Then of course she replies "yes sir, your wish is my command." Gotta go, she's comming back into the room.

I was on the phone with a friend while reading this, so I mentioned it to her. Her immediate reaction was that she wants a knife to carry, that it should be small and cute, and, most importantly, that it should have a "curved blade like a claw!" (her favorite knife is my yellow Tasman). Hard to deny a request like that. I think the upcoming Ladybug Hawkbill Salt is probably the only option that fits all those criteria (unless she likes the Cricket, but that's getting a bit more pricey.)

That's good to hear. I thought I was the only one deluded enough to think I was in charge. Good luck in ruling your castle and kingdom.

Well I bought her an Ashworth Turtle in pink about 6 months ago. Then last week I saw her using it to open a box. I asked how often she used it, to which she responded fairly regularly. I asked her if she would like a bigger blade to carry, and she said sure. Yippe! So now I'm going to try to find a Pink Delica4 or get her a pink Native. She also really likes the blue Delica 4 FFG.

I think I'm going to have to get myself a native as well. I don't really care for the new one thats being released and I imagine they'll discontinue the old one eventually.

Come to think of it, before I do any of that, I should see what the blade length limit in MD is on college campuses.

My girlfriend just moved to a new apartment and has no kitchen knives and when she was struggling to open boxes I suggested she get a Spyderco. Then I offered to pay half, and now it's en route. Purple FFG Delica. That's how I did it.
