did ebay refund your money?
Sorry to say I did not pursue it any further. He lost my business and maybe yours too. I haven't lost a knife in over 25 years, except that purple mouse about 6 months ago. It is just as well because it pissed me off everytime I saw the spydieguys.com on the blade.
You can't display a toad in a fine restaurant like this! Why, the good folks here would go right off the feed!

Its because of stories like this I sometimes contemplate become a Spyderco Dealer in order to further the company culture of customer service.

Why doesn't Sal just cut Spydieguus as a dealer. This also hurts Spudercos reputation as well. It will turn people off on his product.

there are always Canadians on here complaining about losing knives to customs and not being able to buy :spyder: s at a reasonable price...if you have the startup cash maybe you should look into it.

as for the spydieguys, after seeing a picture of that knife and the way they handled it, you have to say wtf was he thinking?

I do not think spyderco would cut him off, he buys a lot of product from them. Running his business poorly and making a fool out of himself in you-tube videos reflects on his business not Spyderco. It seems some people are still missing the point of the forum knife. There is nothing wrong with buying product to turn a profit, but the forum knife was about more than money or profit. As he was buying them up to sell for more, others were helping forum members out by selling them there extra one for what they bought it for. If there was one knife that dealers should have left alone it was that one. Someone who calls there business spyderguys, is a forum member, has a spyderco tatoo and seems to love spyderco products should have realized that. Instead he was a jerk about the whole thing, ran away from the forums and made a fool of himself on you-tube. Kinda like a snowball rolling into a valcano...it wont last long. Take care.

Just thought I'd throw in the fact that I bought a couple from them with no problem. If I was told to sand the blade down to get rid of the etching after receiving a knife falsely advertised I'd flip out though. Not good business.

WOW that sand it off comment, man im speechless actually.

On a side note on ebay they had some buy it now SS serrated Jesters for i think 32.00 i picked up 3 and everything was fine. I just see alot of new knives out that will come out shortly and they have them up there for a huge mark up, given everyone needs to make a buck though, guess it comes down to who is the more impatient to fork out the money. usually by the time someone actually received the knife from Spydieguys itll probably be already out at distributors

BTW the knife that was etched in both storys is NOT a Spyderco

My issue with SpydieGuys was with how my repeated requests for service were ignored until I used the eBay escalation system. I received an Orange Assist from them with a crooked cobra hood. No biggie, mistakes happen; however, what matters most to me is how they're handled. SpydieGuys 'encouraged' me to send the knife to Spyderco for service, as opposed to having them replace it, by telling me I'd get a quicker response from the factory. After my earlier difficulties with them, I chose to pay to mail the knife to the factory.

In comparison, I had an minor cosmetic issue with a Khukuri I got from poor_fish. However, they responded right away, cheerfully offering a refund or replacement. I chose the replacement, and they immediately emailed me a pre-paid UPS label. I was so thrilled with their service that I bought a Meerket from them as well. Since then, I also purchased a second Orange Assist and a second Khukuri.

The lesson for sellers to learn is that while a good price may get you one sale, good service will get you repeat sales, and that bad service is just bad business.

Ira

does bladetech = spyderco?

btw the E4 I just got was won Sep 16, 2009 22:22:23 PDT off of ebay and I got it a coupla days ago -_-
It was lost somewhere in the US and a lot of unproductive (often ignored) emails to various spydieguys staff, I decided to email JspyEDC and the next day, one was mailed. Spydieguys sucks, but I'm not too sure about how much of it is Jess' fault.
I think I will stay away from them for a while.
I used to NOT like thumbholes. Until I used one.
Just like I didn't like the look of Spyderco knives in general. Until I held one.

I got burned by Spydieguys' photo game a couple years ago. Bought a nice looking Micro Dyad from them on ebay and the knife I received had major F&F problems, would have been clearly visible in any photograph. Contacted Jess and his response word for word was, "We have a business to run. We don't have time to photograph every knife we sell on ebay." To his credit, he took it back and refunded my money. I just couldn't take that kind of attitude from an ebay merchant. Plenty of other good dealers out there.

I am really appreciate Spyderco's efforts to make Forum knives.
Jay_Ev wrote:I don't mean to be out of line, Roman but I seem to remember there were many people who did not get one. :o I apologize if I am wrong but I remember a big outrage / uproar over the issue.
Pre-order system, I referenced to was used on previous Forum knives like Lava and Adventura, when forum members ordered their knives (limit two) and paid in advance. So Spyderco produced only quontity, which was preodered. It was period of time: two to four weeks when you can pre-order and pay.
In 2009 there was no pre-order, all knives were sold within a day and some people were too late to buy.
I hope I clarified what I said before.

The knife mentioned in this thread, and the only knife that's etched with "SpydieGuys.com" is the blue frn Blade-Tech Mouse Lite. There were 1,000 made and spydieguys has the exclusive on the 1,000 made in the blue color. We got them delivered 250 pieces at a time. The third batch (and 4th and final) was etched at the factory without our knowledge until mentioned by a buyer some time after delivering over 50 or so pieces with the etching. We do not have any remaining without the etching. We do need to change the listing description, thanks for the heads up.

Speaking specifically to the comment regarding "sanding" the etching off... I do not handle our email, that is done by employees. I do remember our email people asking me what can be done for the people who do not want the etching, and I told them they can grind polish it off or use green 3m cloth to remove it as well or simply return it. I did not reply to this specific thread writer. I think the relaying of this information to this particular customer via email was taken as if I had said... "Tough ****, just sand it off." When in reality, since all our remaining stock was etched there was nothing we could do but exactly that. As always, and also plainly written in every listing as required by Ebay is our return policy.... Return an item within 7 days for a refund. It DOES NOT say, return only a defective item, it says return it if you do not want it. Is this not fair?

Maybe it's just me, but this thread seemed to imply from the start that we etch ALL the knives we sell including Spyderco's with an advertising message in a clandestine-like manner. And from the initial responses to this thread that seemed to be the way it was interpreted. The pic supplied also just showed the etching and not the entire knife. Hmmmmmmm.

eBay does allow sellers to block bidders by username. And we do block buyers from time to time. We block those that are impossible to satisfy, and if you have ever sold in high volume on eBay, you would know there are many out there who are impossible to satisfy. I find it strange, but it REALLY PISSES people off when you block them from bidding on your items. Why does it piss them off so much, if you have born the brunt of their dis-satisfaction in the past? Why do they wanna come back? And why then do they make it a personal campaign to forever bash that seller...?

Hope you enjoyed my monthly Forum Post. See you next month when the spydieguys bashers think of another off-topic thread to show just how awful we are. Till then, shiny footprints to all and a big thank you to the 1,200 customers who purchased items from us this month on eBay and our web-site

(insert etching)

^typical jess answer
i woudnt have such a problem with him if he would atleast own up to ALL of the mistakes people post instead of always shifting the blame to someone else. its griselda or someone else, yet its his company and he runs it. the buck stops with him. nothing new said here, didn't talk about the major issue we all have with him:
he sells knives on his ebay site that he knows are not in stock, then you pay, a week later no email/tracking number/or knife. repeated contacts go unanswered for days and even weeks and after you escalate it with ebay you might get a response from him, usually negative. especially if you cost him money by letting hundreds of people know not to use him. (forum) he doesn't pop in to discuss spydies, he is here defending his money! that and a possible future client base. those 1200 customers could easily be more if he would just be straight up with people. same jess, same "not my fault" line of appeasement.
lest not forget why he is always talked about, repeated poor service and communication...

i will say this about spydieguys (and it pains me to do it, but i speak the truth): usually they have great prices, but only on stuff that has been out for years npueppke
and he seems to get new stuff first???
