This is actually one of the few SS-knifes that I like, so I'll probably end up with one :) .
Nice design, I really hope to handle one in Amsterdam. Thumbs up !

Mahalo Kristi!

[quote="TazKristi"]Chad,
Feel free to post as many pics as you would like. :D

We have already started taking orders on it. Several of my Distributor and Dealer accounts have placed orders sight unseen. I've explained it to them and they are very positive about it. From my perspective, it is an extremely comfortable knife. It honestly feels as if it were a natural extension of your hand (and the accounts that I shared it with at SHOT agreed). Chad and Sal have much to be proud of!

As for a 2006 forum knife... Sal and I have briefly discussed it...

and yes, we agree it would be a good choice, BUT give me a little time. We need to recover from SHOT Show first. It's an insanely busy time for us right now in the Sales Dept. (it's also the peak of travel time for us for shows) and as most of you know, anything regarding the forum is done in addition to my actual job  . So, I know you can be patient with me. ]

Mahalo Kristi,

Thanks for the go ahead about posting pics of the Lava...I just hope you know what a "big can o' worms" you just opened! :D Also, I truly appreciate your kind words about the Lava. I shared it with some co-workers of various hand sizes and it fit them ALL. Lemme tell you, some of these Hawaiian brothers have HUGE mitts! They too, said the Lava felt like a "part of their hands"...so much so that I thought I had to do some takedowns on staff to get it back!..not kidding.

As for a possible Lava 2006 Forum Knife, to be honest I cannot even "see that far" yet! I am just totally enjoying this moment and want the Lava do do VERY well for both Spyderco and all us ELU's. Period.

Okay, I appreciate the go ahead for pics, however, what about Lava in hand descriptions? Let me know, as I said, I do NOT want to ruin anything for the marketing dept. There is ONE feature on this knife that is an industry first that's why...

So here we go...some pics of the Lava! Sorry for the bad shots, I am nowhere near as good as the photofolks here.

These were taken today at random, so lemme know if there are any other shots you'd like me to take of it. BTW, that pic of the Lava with the "black background"...it's actually atop what lava looks like when it turns to rock. Apparently, there was a lava flow in my backyard! Anyway, I apologize for "being out of sorts" as of late, but c'mon...I think you'd feel the same way! :D

Okay, I just got back from ****, so I gotta down some maggotless food, and hit the shower, etc...please, FWIW, enjoy the pics! Be back later if my computer co-operates.

Aloha ALL , and God bless!!!
Chad

PS: Mahalo much to EVERYONE for your interest in the Lava! Descriptions to follow once permission is granted. ;)

Great photos Chad, and an excellent choice of backgroud. Especially like the nice fine traction grooves on the choil and spine.

sal wrote:Hi Chad,

Glad it got there ok. I would guess that you can say anything you want once the model has been announced to our dealer base. Production is within the next 6 months, 3 - 4 more likely. But I will yield to the sales dept decisions. Kristi?

The blade steel is VG-10. I'm pretty sure Kelly set up the model in the computer so Kristi should have price info.

"basic stainless" is, in my opinion the best way to test a "pattern design". Function and ergos are easily determined without the "influence" of material.

If the "pattern design" is well received, then materials can be discussed. Material options are boundless.

We have produced two designs from forumites within a one year time period. It will be interesting to watch their "paths". Naturally we wish the best.

sal
Aloha Sal,

Yeah, I'm glad it got to it's "place of birth" sound and intact. ;) You folks did an AMAZING job on it, and my co-workers were VERY impressed by it. "Normal cutting" as well as CQ "MBC stuff" have gone very well, and even better than I expected. Thank you for adding the small details that make a big difference such as the fine texture on cusp and choil kick, as well as the southpaw option of clip placement.
The Lava is smaller than I had intended, but it projects my concept just the same as I intended on the initial design size.

Sal, I think it is safe to say that Alex and I will not let you down...and just ask Mr. Jhones, I been saying that since September of 2003! :p ( Well, I been saying for myself anyway...I didn't know Alex yet, but that man is so talented, no way can he let you down! ;) )

God bless and thank you for your faith in my concept, as well as for the sincere relationship you share with your ELU's. Thank you for "walking with us" on that "path", as opposed to just "yelling from a distance". :D

Mahalo much sal.
Chad

PS: I know I just posted this pic, but what the heck...it's not everyday you get the honor of having a design with :spyder: become a reality! :)

PS2: We did it Alex! SPYDERCO!!! WooooHooooooo!!! ;)

Very nice. From the looks of that handle we have a very good replacement candidate for the DODO now. Looks like a real winner to me.

Congrats Chad. Super design you came up with there.
