I too have the SureFire Disease, which is in the same family as Spyderco Syndrome, just not as severe of a case. I also have the M3 Combatlight, with Beam Cover and SC, old-style head, a Z2 Combatlight, and a G2 Nitrolon, black. After owning the G2 for about a year, and loving it the whole time, I had to step it up to the M3- and man, is it great or what?!

When I was on the road with my old band, we'd be driving back home at like 3:00 am, at the start of a 3-hour drive. Kind of dangerous, but I would use my G2 to spot deer, add an extra high beam for the car,shine on houses set WAY back from the road, etc. We'd have loads of fun making the Interstate reflective green signs EXPLODE out of the dark with that light. Don't look at the darn thing, either. It'll take your eyes right out. The Z2 is a new one for me- I like it a great deal- a beefier G2 sized light, with the Grip ring. Nice. :cool:

So whats it mean, 65 lumens for 2.5 hrs? What happens at the end of 2.5 hrs? It just dies? The L1 looks good, a little pricey though @ $110, hard to justify.

GC - If you are referring to the runtime of a particular model, it depends on the type of light it is. If it is an LED light, like the specs for the L4 you describe, (2.5 hours ) the light will gradually lose intensity until the batteries are flat. The light may still be bright enough to get by, until you can replace the batteries. If the light is a Xenon bulb based light, it usually dies faster. So, if they say it runs for about that long, it typically does. I find I may change the batteries in my G2 (2 CR123 batteries) about every six months, but I use it fairly often. Once you snag one- say, a G2 for about $30 bucks, you'll never want any other light.

The L4 produces 65 lumens of light for over an hour, followed by lower output for over 1.5 hours. Unlike most LED flashlight manufacturers -- who inflate the light output and usable runtimes of their LEDs -- SureFire provides realistic output and runtime specifications based on scientifically obtained measurements. Although any LED -- including those produced by SureFire -- can continue to produce negligible light output for over 100 hours, the amount of useful light produced is of a shorter duration.

Yeah - nothing beats SureFire flashlite. Not in throw and not in lumens. They are top notch and I advise everyone in the market for a flashlight to get a Surefire. They just can't be beat!

above are my customized SF E2e limited burgondy winelight with a LED Badboy 750 lightengine. Second is an Aleph2 with an Next Gen 500 LE. it's a 1x123 light and performs amazingly well for an LED.

I was thinking about trying to convince my wife I needed a Surefire E2 for Christmas, but looking at the INOVA T3, I kinda like that, too. Is there a pressing reason to drop the extra $23? I need a few new :spyder: 's, too.

I can,t really put it into words but the Surefire is worth the extra cash.
Also the Lums output from other companies is a little overstated but from Surefire it is a little understated if anything.The beam quality on a Surefire is the best too.
If you can go for the E2L,6 hours total runtime and while only 30 lums the optics make it appear to be as bright as the E2e IMO.

I love the Princeton Tec stuff. Got an Impact XL and dig it. Long life (70hrs), AA batteries (great to find anywhere) and bright enough for all my purposes. And it's waterproof to 300 feet or some nutty thing. It's tough and simple and it goes anywhere.

I got a Streamlight Scorpion for Christmas a few years back. Not the longest run time...just over an hour I estimate but **** bright. Not an LED though. Next will be a Surefire.

e2e and e1l. that is a nice combo--spot and "flood."
also got a 6d. for anyone else who has one, putting in a bulb for 3 or 4D mag makes it quite a bit brighter :D

unfortunatly i do not have a camera...or a machete...to show what the extreme EDC light (mag 6d) and knife combo would be

what is the point of a high end flash light,

are like the surefires water proof and smash proof and stuff like that.

the surfire motto: smaller. brighter. better.

their lights (and some other brands like streamlight) are very bright, very small, and extremely durable. many have Hard anodized 3 coatings and jsut about every one is waterproof.

the high price is attributed to mainly size and brightness. my e2e (60 lumens) was brighter than my stock mag light 6d (not as many lumens), to give you an idea.

My wife and I have been practicing defence drills with with our e2d's (she downgraded (not really the right term!) from the c3centurian after seeing how much more convienent to carry it is plus the striker bezel keeps the switch from going offin the pocket) no matter how hard I try to keep bearing down with my attack that **** 60 lumen bulb turns my head every time!
We like the bezel more for pressure point control more than straight concussive impact. When one of those crenulations digs into the jawbone believe me all idea of resistance disappears and one's head will turn. It's at that point that the bad guy's jaw will break under my wife's conditioned inch punch(if lucky, Annie is quite fond of neck punches :p )
