First of all, I have been reading and learning about knives, steels, design, etc on this site for almost 2 years now. I don't ask questions, because most of the time the answers can be found by using the search button, which most folks appreciate.
Second, since I am still learning, don't feel I have a lot to add to many of the conversations here. Sure, I could say "x" is a great knife, but what does that add to the conversation. Once a guy asked about a sheath for his mule, which I could help with by posting pics, so I did. My Elmax mule did help butcher 4 deer without a touch-up, but that was for another time. Now, if someone asks about archery, I could fill up pages, as I have worked in the industry, as well as actively participate in the sport. I understand a lot about the mechanics of archery and I like to share that understanding.
Which brings me to my next point. Unlike many folks on the web, I don't give an opinion unless I can intelligently speak from experience.
Finally, unless I misunderstood the intent, it was for any members, not certain ones. According to Kristi, I don't need a minimum post count or duration of membership. I just need to be a member and enjoy the fantastic knives made by Spyderco. I own several Spyderco knives, and plan on owning many more, maybe even a forum knife.
Have a great night,

My apologies. Maybe I'm just getting to be a cranky old bastard. As is usually the case a number of items supplied the energy that was triggered by your post. I took it the wrong way.
Our reason is quite satisfied, in 999 cases out of every 1000 of us, if we can find a few arguments that will do to recite in case our credulity is criticized by someone else. Our faith is faith in someone else's faith, and in the greatest matters this is most the case.

This is the real dilemma for me as well - aesthetically, I prefer the Carbon Fiber version (hence the forum name), but the extra specialness of the forum knife, and the cool new texture on the G10, are appealing to me too. If I had to choose just one, I would probably go for the CF, but I'm tempted to go for both. The main thing stopping me at this point is money. With the upcoming Domino, Nishijin Dragonflys hitting the market, the Nishijin/damascus Stretch making appearances at online retailers as an upcoming model, and Knifecenter expecting the Manix 2 Carbon Fiber exclusive soon.... yeah, definitely not enough money for all the fiber goodness that I want.kbuzbee wrote:That is a really great point. Well thought out.
Me, I hope to have both. A forum model and a CF. Should be a sweet knife in either format.
Ken
They are Carbon Fiber.kbuzbee wrote:Aren't the S90V Knifeworks exclusives CF as well? (Manix XL & Yo) Or are they G10? Can't recall.

As for the steel. I have both an S90V and S110V South Fork. I have yet to make either dull. We use the S90V in the kitchen almost daily. If S110V is better, it's bound to be amazing and probably more than I need. Which makes me want it more. :)

I am getting pretty excited about the chance to get some S110V.jtoler_9 wrote:They are Carbon Fiber.

Thank you both for your concerns. The 8 lb. mini doxie had a positive outcome from surgery #1 today and her hip is plated back together. The 2 femurs will be pinned back together tomorrow. She should make an almost 100% recovery and maybe my wallet will also. $8k is a lot to pay without pet insurance.

When your family member looks at you with those eyes, you know that the
money was well spent. Hope that all goes well, take care.

Yep, I mentioned the manix2 XL in my post, but somehow forgot to put the "XL" part.kbuzbee wrote:Aren't the S90V Knifeworks exclusives CF as well? (Manix XL & Yo) Or are they G10? Can't recall.

I actually have an XL already, so it's not like I really need another, but I'll be VERY tempted to sell mine off and replace it with the CF version.
There are plenty of those I am sure. In my case, I was content with reading and learning without an account for the longest. I just felt so compelled to reply to a question this one time back in January. Received plenty of welcomes and good wishes, so I stuck around. I see a lot of you guys on Bladeforums.TazKristi wrote: There are even people who read our forum regularly who have chosen not to join.
Two S110v Native5's, Green Para2, FRN SuperBlue sprints, Stretch Damascus, Domino, Goddard, Cruwear Millie, Yo/Manix2 CF, Dyad sprint...
There are so many must have Spydercos coming out. This is insane.
If I fail to get this Native5 forum knife, I'd go back to my original plan before finding out about it... Buying two of the CF's. Heck I might either way anyway if I can wing it though.
I've come to like green as in the BRG that is on a lot of my ZDP knives, so I'm totally digging the green on this. Hope to get lucky.

Happy that she is going to be fine. We spent 2.5K, the day after I wrote a 1K check I got a notice that a pre-order was now availablexceptnl wrote:Thank you both for your concerns. that I had been waiting on for many months. I had to pass.
The Forum knife looks awesome, but it is only a knife, your mini is family.
First off, thanks for the words Kristi.
Also, just curious, if you get a forum knife, are you going to carry it, carry it and not use it for tough
tasks safe queen it. Keep it at home at look at and think about it for a while, take it out and whack
away at that willow tree that has gotten out of hand.
Personally, if I can manage to get one, I don't have any safe queens, so I am going to carry it. I am
one of those that carry more than one knife anyway, I like to have an EDC, a SD and a rough work
knife. So even if I carry as an EDC, I'll have another knife in case I have tough chores.

We all get emotional sometimes and end up saying things without really thinking about it.Sequimite wrote:My apologies. Maybe I'm just getting to be a cranky old bastard. As is usually the case a number of items supplied the energy that was triggered by your post. I took it the wrong way.
I have put things on this forum and then later looked at it and wondered what the he##
was I thinking. I made comments in this thread that perhaps I shouldn't have made. My
apologies, if I affended anyone.
I said it earlier, but it is hard to understand what a person means with words that are written.
The sentence "What are you doing here." can be taken numerous ways, depending on which
word you say louder and with more authority. It changes the entire meaning of the phrase.
It's all good man.
Excellent news! We spent quite a bit more when our Havanese got Mast cell cancer a few years back. We tried EVERYTHING but it still got him.... We may have extended his life by a few weeks but he was miserable (obviously we had hopes of a "cure") We were probably self deluding (hearing hope when there wasn't any) and really regret putting him through all that. (total different scenario from yours, obviously) Now his younger 1/2 brother has bone cancer. We're resolved to just keep him as comfortable as possible for as long as we can, but no to-the-max heroics this time. We learned our lesson.xceptnl wrote:Thank you both for your concerns. For me this will be an occasional user. I usually have about 4 knives that I rotate into my EDC. Ones that aren't being used are usually passed on to family members or sold on the internets.BAL wrote:Also, just curious, if you get a forum knife, are you going to carry it, carry it and not use it for tough

Basically this, although I can see this becoming my daily driver. I already love the Native 5 platform. Add S110V steel, really cool green scales and the special nature of representing my favorite brand & forum, I can see real issues getting it out of my pocket.senorsquare wrote:For me this will be an occasional user. Yep, throw in a deep carry clip and I can see all my other knives getting a LOT of drawer time.kbuzbee wrote:Basically this, although I can see this becoming my daily driver.
