It's really a beautiful piece. I'm sure the bolster will eventually be scratched in use and a nice functional surface will show experience. It will come with a clear plastic cover when new.
Hi Hun,
Welcome to the Spyderco forum. Any interesting stories you'd like to share? The development of the model?

The whole story is very interesting for me, it is a very exciting adventure. I’m neither a maker nor a knife designer (anyway, can these roles be separated?). In fact I’m an architect so I have connection with designing. But this task was completely different. I don’t use CAD programs and made a lot of sketches. I love knives for years but never disassembled any of my folders. I had to learn the working of the liner lock for instance (it’s not so complicated). I drew the handle on a sheet of paper than drew the blade on a transparent film and rotated it around the axle to check how it works and stops in opened/closed position. This is very common for a pro maker but it was absolutely new for me. I played a lot with it and enjoyed it very much. Cardboard models were simple, cheap and very useful help during designing. I had to order samples from a maker and it was rather costly.
And so on…
Finally I loved this „job”. It was unusual for me that Spyderco never chipped on designing, they let me develop the folder during the past two years. But they were always very prompt if I had any question.
So thanks much Sal and the entire Spydercrew!
There were a number of designs created and modified over time. Samples were created and delivered to us in Germany. Explanation of the why and the history were helpful. Hun also created a presentation box that was very impressive. We believe a great deal of time and effort (+ cost) were extended to bring the project to a reality.
We also spent time speaking with several Hungarian knife afi's regarding Hun's design and the concept. They promised to keep the design a secret until we were ready to show it and they kept their promise, though difficult.
Hun is being modest. (A good character trait. :D ) Thanx for all you'ver done.

Wow! What an awesome thread! Beautiful Photos. I would have to say that my interest list would look like this:
1. Large Kiwi (needs a clip)
2. Karahawk
3. Dyad
4. Delica
5. Lava (needs a clip)

A stock removed, NON-cast model might be an idea....noddy wrote:I am so looking forward to that Serrata ... I just can't wait :)
An idle thought, but I wondered if it were a candidate for the N690 or even 3V treatment?

Hi NZedge and Neocacher,
Welcome to the Spyderco forum.
Hey Stuart, We're not opposed to another version. Since we've already made casting tooling and we've been working on this for some time, we'll certainly make the firs run in a cast 440C. The design is a timeless refinement and would also do well in any good blade steel.

I want to see how the casted 440C will hold out. It seems to have very different characteristics then regular 44OC.
