I decided to take the knife back apart and put it into the original scales to see if it had this same issue, and indeed it does even stock:





So now I'm thinking I just need to return this knife. Based on my conversation with KnivesPlus, I have a feeling this is going to be a larger issue with the more recent batch of Manix 2 Salts that went out from Golden. I didn't even purchase this one from KnivesPlus, so more than one vendor has gotten them like this I guess. On the plus side, maybe I don't have to worry about my AWT scales after all, though my hopes of setting it up with a MagnaCut blade seem to be dashed. I guess I'll try to pick up a Spy27 model or something...
