I would love spyderco to make a knife that performs like this in either h1 or carbon steel but with frn and a clip and a spydie hole.

swigert wrote:Can we get a summary of this thread? What's the consensus so far as to the new model?
I don't think there was ever really any "consensus". This was just a thread where everyone talked about features they would like to see in a new salt model. The thread came about because a few of us were fantasizing about a military salt. The Millie is not really an option for a design platform for a salt knife so at Sals suggestion we started this thread.

Many of my suggestions were to make a knife that was similar to the Millie. Long blade, pointy tip, more sturdy handle, finger choil, serrated h1 but with slightly more pe at the tip. Those are just some of mine. Everyone else had their own list of suggestions. Throw yours in there too! :)

A couple of comments about what I thought I wanted...I talked about h1 liners to make the handle more sturdy, but after more use with my PAC salt, I believe I like linerless, but it would be nice to have an option with a more robust handle material. I went on a bit of a rant about a combo edge too. . Now I haven't suddenly changed my mind about the usefulness of a ce, but given a choice I would rather just see a full se with a bit more pe at the tip. Take a look at the old military serrated edge.

Sal made a few comments that gave the impression they were genuinely looking into creating a new salt model. I remember him commenting that g10 was a possibility as a handle material. I also remember him saying he was envisioning something relatively stout. Haven't heard anything else for a while now.

as far as the tip,a few minutes with a file and some emery cloth and one can put a finer tip on.Thats what I did to my Salt.

We had a lot of discussion about completely new models, but one thing we never really talked about in this thread was a sprint run. How about a sprint run Salt 1 and Pacific Salt with linerless g10 handles. Sal did mention in here that g10 was a possibility. That might be an easy way to give the new "salt" handle a shot without staring from scratch on a new model. Just thinking out loud.

I just got new models of both in yellow. I got the yellow this time for the practicality of being able to find it if I drop it in shallow water, but I must say, I prefer the looks of the black handled versions. The bright yellow frn looks a bit "plasticy". I bet yellow g10 would not though!!

G-10 is tough stuff. I bet we see more linerless knives in G-10 as time goes on. Sounds good to me!

Whatever we get, I'm asking for a high hollow grind.

Pacific with G-10 and a high hollow sounds really nice to me.

After seeing those Atlantic regrinds I'd love to see a production PE wharnie based on the Atlantic. I just got my first salt knife on Tuesday (Salt 1, PE) and I'm really digging the super light construction, big ole opening hole, titanium clip...think I'm going to have to pick up a Pacific now!

It would be nice to see a G10 serrated Pacific Salt with black blade. I haven't bought a Salt knife yet but would like to and am just waiting on the new Aqua Salt re-release and the black bladed serrated edge Pacific Salt I heard rumours of on another thread. A G10 Pacific Salt would be great. Although I have Stretches and the new Manix in FRN I really prefer a slabbed G10 or Peel Ply CF.

It would also be nice if the Peel Ply were available in other colours than grey. A dark blue tinted CF with wire clip would just fade into the background when carried in a jeans pocket. I noticed how well the new Blue FRN S110V Manix inconspicuously fades into the background when carried in my jeans pocket the last few days and a blue tinted CF would do just the same. I just picked up my new S110V LtWt Manix this past Wednesday and am very happy with it. That being said, I only like FRN as a light weight option and I think that I have enough of those now (well maybe after I pick up a black bladed SE Pacific Salt in the future) G10/CF is where most of my future purchases would lie.

For a new design, I too was thinking of a larger blade. Stout.

Hello Sal,

This was almost a year ago in the discussion.
Are there any updates in the development of such a larger/stout blade?

3-4 inch, CE, Emerson hook, FRN to keep price down.
Prefer liner lock but other type are fine.

I'm not sure if this has been suggested yet, but I was just looking at my Manix 2 LW and it dawned on me how great it would be for a Salt knife, since the handle is 99% FRN and doesn't have liners aside from the figure 8 surrounding the pivot. If this knife came in FFG/SE/H1 I'd absolutely buy one.

Yes, I would too and would be proud to own it! It would not be the perfect fishing knife because that blade is a bit wide for fish processing IMHO but I would certainly own one. It would also probably sell better than the knife that I want them to make. Surely we can have both right?? ;)

Oh, I didn't know this was a fishing oriented idea, I just thought another H1/rust proof knife. Personally I was just appreciating the FRN handle on this knife and would like to see it used more often, even adapted to other models.

Lol, I'm not sure that it is. I just know that MY idea is fishing oriented! :D. What I was hoping for was a slightly larger salt folder that had characteristics that would make for a good fishing/boat knife while still holding appeal for larger audiences like campers, hunters, outdoorsmen, etc. That's just MY idea. Others will have their own. I have no idea if it will happen and what it will look like if it does but I do believe that Sal and company are cooking something up in their secret lab. in the meantime, if spyderco puts a serrated h1 blade in the Manix LW design?? Sure, sign me up!!
