With serrated, you probably would never need to.

Any updates on the most exciting mule in history? I hope to see a spydiechef version in HIC. Heck, I want to see a slew of salt Spyderco knives in ceramic. Perhaps a folder where you could just buy replacement blades if you were not into sharpening them. (not that you would even need to for years) would the compression lock be an option for ceramic? Would anyone else be interested in diamond lapping film sharpening rods with two or three grits that you just stick onto the rods? Could be just plastic triangle rods that fit existing bases with replacement films with adhesive backs. Thoughts?

We managed to break one of the elastic ceramic (Rahven branded) kitchen knives today. My wife was cutting frozen butter with the paring knife. Definitely the wrong knife for the job, but she was pushing straight down (no twisting) and the blade broke cleanly.



FWIW, I ordered a replacement immediately. I have all three paring knives, but this one (the medium size) was our favorite.

I didn't read far enough into this thread initially, and did not realize that Elastic Ceramic Mules were in the works! Are they going to have the same Mule thickness and blade geometry? My understanding is that mules have standardized size to make comparisons easier, but I am having trouble understanding what a ceramic mule is.

Still haven't acquired my first Mule, but excited for all of the current lineup on the way! Hopefully I'll find a way to be more patient once I have the first couple in hand...

From my understanding it will have the same proportions. It will be thicker thus sturdier in theory. This will make quite the light weight corrosion free knife

Just received my Rahven, similar to that which Tomaiello's wife broke

It's only seen little use for kitchen duties, but I can already say that it performs well. The lack of cutting edge when checked with the finger, as previously reported, is real and a bit disconcerting. But ultimately, the blade certainly does the job.

Not so happy with the finish on the handle, wher it meets the blade, as it isn't neatly cut out. A bog standard 3€ knife from a random Chinese factory would fare better in this department.

Anyway, I extend my thanks to Fireman for creating this thread which led me to discover this interesting material.
It reinforces my wish for an Elastic Mule. Sal, we're counting on you

I got two replacements yesterday (I bought two because it's our most used size, so if we break another one we have a backup).

I'd love to get a thicker HIC blade (like a mule) and do some destructive testing.

I'd love to have a ceramic mule as an ultralight pack knife, or a nice companion fishing blade. Light weight scales, you could make a nice metal free knife as well for heavy salt duty or extreme humid or wet environments.

A serrated ceramic spyderco would put us close to the futuristic spyderco described in William Gibsons cyberpunk novel Virtual Light.
