Might be time to cool it. The question was about how the tariffs would affect Spyderco and I think we have our answer. Now it seems to be turning into a debate as to the pros and cons of Tariffs in general, which is getting very political. My apologies. I guess we'll just have to wait and see?

Hi Naperville

That's what I do not want. Both sides seem to only be capable of spewing their point of view as though it were fact. That's why I don't want any politics in my forum. Even as smart and open as we seem to be on this forum, when it comes to politics, we are not able to discuss the issues. Sad. It it continues past this post, I will shut down the thread and just assume we are not able to bridge that chasm. a failure to be sure.

This is as insightful a comment as I’ve ever seen here.

I think the biggest problem is not the tariff percentage but the predictability. I think I asked way at the beginning of this thread basically how do you manage pricing if costs are fluctuating rapidly. And Sal I think you said something reasonable like you’ll adapt as it happens. But obviously it makes business difficult if things are too dynamic.

I was involved in a business during the first Trump administration and we had to move manufacturing from China to Viet Nam in response to the tariff changes. That was an enormous undertaking. I don’t know that the outcome was necessarily bad, but it was a difficult time for our business.

Hope Spyderco isn’t negatively affected by all this. I’m sure it will settle down at some point.

Hi Zhyla,

Thanx for the insight and sharing. It is said that, "One should not be responsible for something over which one hasno control", but in business, this is not necessarily so. Anything that affects costs / pricing is a PITA. Most don't realize the large undertaking that goes on behind the scenes in business. We try to err on the side of the customer, so when costs go up, we hold fast until it gets to the point we're we cannot sustain the loss and make a change. This occurs with currency valuations, tariff's, special taxes and shipping costs. But there are also other factors like changes in laws (Politics) in any particular country or section of the US and again requires change. So like the duck, we're try to be calm and smooth above the water and paddle like **** below.

Hi Sal i want to thank you and Eric for wanting to do pricing this way.
Can i ask are tarrifs also impacting the new building or is that already far enough in the planning to be safe from allot of extra costs?

Edited to say that if any of us were neighbors we would probably just think it was really cool that we have a neighbor who is also into Spydercos and that politics, economic theory, etc. would mean very little between us.

Just reviewed the whole thread.

So many strong and angry politicized opinions. Even after warnings, some people still feel compelled to "score political points" in their posts. I truly regret asking the question. I feel like my post started something nasty and divisive, in an otherwise clean and civil forum. Don't feel I gained any insight into the question, either. Just heat, without light.

If I could erase this thread, I would. Again, I apologize for starting it.

Hey SEF,

Eric has been working on something for a few years. The design is completely different than the Delica so I don't think it will affect Delica sales. But it will be USA made.

I thought the Charisma would fit this description. However, that model isn’t being directly referenced. Am I mistaken about the Charisma? Is this something altogether different? I know y’all don’t say too much before the Reveal.

Edit - fixed typo

No need to apologize, unfortunately politics and tariffs are closely tied.

There was some good information that did come out of it:

-Sal will keep prices where they are until the tariffs start impacting Spyderco.

-It is not fully known how much of a price increase there would be as each line of knives touches different countries in different ways. Obviously the ones made in China would be hit harder.

Sal, sorry if I miss quoted you in any way but that is what I took from your comments.
