I can’t speak to why it has not been released yet but the black and yellow scales do require significantly more machine time than the all black scales. The all black scales maintain the peel ply texture but the black and yellow scales have a smooth texture because they are fully machined to maintain the consistency of how much yellow is exposed in the fishbone pattern.

They are smoother, but I wouldn't call them slick. They go in and out of the pocket easily and would not cause as much destruction as peel ply. There is such a large flat area to pinch when closing the compression lock that it is easily closed without any thoughts of dropping it. It feels fantastic in the hand in my short time handling it.
