I see your point and thank you for a better description of the G10 it sounds acceptable which is encouraging I want to try this knife in serrations too bad there isn't a serrated SPY27.Gamecock wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 10:41 pmThe G10 is smooth, definitely not slick. It feels good and no issues with slickness. It was a good choice.BeggarSo wrote: ↑Thu Jan 22, 2026 11:15 amI received my Bodacious in S90V with Carbon fiber scales.
I am perfectly fine with G10 and S30V or maybe SPY27. What I am never fine with is slick G10, hate that stuff, so better to
go with the upgraded steel and CF.
Truth be told I love the S90V / Carbon Fiber combination on most Spydercos, well, all in fact I own.
Fist impressions:
1. This is still good in hand without the Finger Choil.
2. I still wish this had a finger choil.
3. Carbon fiber as expected to the feel, excellent.
4. Slices nicely Factory grinds seems to be closer to 20 degrees than I like too narrow with steep bevels I can make this slice better.
5. Did some more cutting and stropped the edge with diamond strops from Nano hone, 100, 50, 25, 10, 3, 1 Micron. still not great, hold on, broke out the Spyderco Double stuff hand honed on the ceramic side, ah there it is, nice.
Hmm you may need diamond or CBN for the hard carbide but the iron part still likes ceramics.
Sal strikes again.
6. Oh yeah this weekend it gets reprofiled. Thinking 16.5 degrees to start after finding the factory angle.
7. Hmm I want to get a SE but those handles slick = a dead turn off.
8.Maybe I will wait for a different steel and or handle material for an SE?
9. Could just get the SE and put on aftermarket scales, wonder who makes good ones for this?
10. Stopping @ 10. Love this Knife it is like a scaled up Sage, blade Shape is incredible, will without a doubt be a perfect SE Knife, yeah ordering the SE today.
This knife is very useful.
For me the choil was one of the things I hated about the Shaman. The Shaman is huge in the pocket and hand and yet has a small working edge. The Bodacious fixes that (and all the other major flaws). I like a choil on a small knife, but to me it’s useless on a big one. One of the reasons Bodacious is my favorite now by a mile.

Re: Bodacious Thoughts
For those of you who have the SPY27 version of this knife what has been your experience compared to S30V? Or even S90V if you have it in these steels that is.
Re: Bodacious Thoughts
OK I done and did it, after using my nanohone Diamond impregnated strops there was no reason to reprofile my S90V version.
So I ordered the serrated one S30V and a Spy27 which pretty much ensures something new will drop, your welcome guys
Special thanks to Sal you really have done it again with this design.

Re: Bodacious Thoughts
Not sure about edge retention as my Bods didn't get to work enough yet to figure this out but during sharpening the SPY27 was a tad easier, especially when it came to deburring and stropping. Not a big difference but at least noticeable
Re: Bodacious Thoughts
Due to today being Manix Monday and keeping with the Forum Spirit I decided to carry my MANIX2 XL S30V DLC that I reprofiled to 16.5 degrees
After realizing a MANIX2 XL is pretty much a Bodacious with a finger choil and a different lock you in great handle, I decided to compare cutting area and I'll be darned if the Bodaciuos doesn't have more cutting blade, Wow!
I did cut tests with both, to my surprise I was right earlier, the MANIX2 XL reprofile cuts better so....
Yeah the Bodacious is getting reprofiled after all.

Re: Bodacious Thoughts
Hello Sal,
Is there any chance the bodacious will get this same treatment sometime down the road?
An frn serrated bodacious would be great.
Thank you.
Re: Bodacious Thoughts
If an FRN is created I hope it is Serrated K390.

Re: Bodacious Thoughts
The Bodacious is my favorite after owning hundreds of different Spydercos. Always loved the Spyderco Lum Chinese, and it’s similar, but better.
Re: Bodacious Thoughts
Sal, is this new version of the Shaman lightweight / FRN that was released a few months ago? Or are you testing a Bodacious lightweight? If there's a Bodacious LW under development with the same grippy FRN of the Shaman LW that would be quite interesting.
Re: Bodacious Thoughts
1st protective coating a couple more and let the profiling begin.
Re: Bodacious Thoughts
Currently reprofiling to 16 degrees due to the plunge line you have to align it differently in a fixed angled sharpener.
Had to grind down that area next to the plunge line on the show side the other side was fine.
I wonder why the Spyderco robot has so much trouble getting this right?
First thoughts S90V is very easy to work with after doing REX 121.
Second thought let's compare it to it's SPY27 Brother and see how the bevels compare, ah yes nice 16 degrees was a good call.

I have been using my S30V Serrated Bodacious allot and It is kicking other knives to the curb, now if we could only get a SPY27 version of this
