Reveal 18 - Live!
Re: Reveal 18 - Live!
Good to see the Mule Teams in both PlainEdge and SpyderEdge. Also, MagnaMax which is the latest from Dr. Larrin Thomas of MagnaCut fame.

The Nickel/Silver Abalone Bug looks great. It will probably be the only one I buy (new). Where's the Charisma?
Re: Reveal 18 - Live!
I badly want an SE mule and a Dyad. Cue the compulsive checking of mule drop threads…

Re: Reveal 18 - Live!
I was just thinking it's about time for one of these.
Thoughts:
- Shaman LW isn't something I'll buy but that handle texture looks nice. Hope we see more of that.
- Good to see the bodacious getting sprints. I'm keeping an eye out for an XL version.
- Manix XL Salt? Yes. Absolutely Yes. 2/3 of my favorite folders have salt versions now, this is awesome. I'm going to carry this so much. I used to EDC a DLC S30V version and that was close to salt levels of corrosion resistance. I sold it once I got a lot of XL sprints like M4 and 4V. Had thought about picking up another but this is even better. Very, very, very excited for this release! If I see nothing else I like in the reveal I'll still be very happy with this one!
- I was really excited for the TiCN coated Police when I saw it, but the asking price is just shy of $300 and I'm simply going to have to say no at that price. If a sale brings it down closer to $200 I'll grab one, but the price is too much in my eyes.
- Good to see the Police 4 still getting sprints. I've been debating which steel I should get next for another G10 Police build and I was leaning towards a stainless, so this is a maybe for me.
- I love seeing old school designs brought back. Never owned any Terzuola spydies before, maybe I'll check this out....EDIT: $337? Nope, nevermind, hard pass.
- Neat seeing the dyad brought back. I think my kid would think it's cool so I'll plan to order her one.
- if they're making a sprint Moran, I'm not shutting up about a Street Beat sprint until we get one of those two. Ya'll been warned
Awesome reveal overall. Definitely getting a Manix XL Salt ASAP.
Some of these prices are concerning me though. I just bought my first $200+ spyderco within the last year, and now it seems many of them will be pushing $300. The jump from $125 Military & Police folders to $200+ took over a decade, but it feels like the jump from $200 to $300 folders is happening over night. I'm not ready to drop $300 on pocket knives. Even a Manix XL Salt or Military Salt. At those prices I will be saying no.

On the good side, the Manix and Manix XL have to be the best bang for the buck in the Spyderco lineup, especially the LW. I have been eyeing a Manix XL for a while, the new Cruwear/Micarta version looks great. Just so many nice knives with so little money allocated for them. I still haven't gotten the REX-121 Sage yet from previous reveals I really wanted.

I felt it was fair paying ~$245 for a Military 2 Salt, even though it was only the second time I spent over $200 on a knife of any sort since I started collecting in the 90's.WilliamMunny wrote: ↑Tue May 27, 2025 11:19 amEverything is going up price was unfortunately. The Manix XL Salt also looks fair for $225. I'll buy 2 or 3 before they go up around new years.
If the TiCN Police was around $200 it would be an instant buy, and if the terzuola was under $250 I'd probably try one. But $285 and $337 respectively is more than I'm willing to spend. I'll hold off for a true Police Salt instead.
I had been thinking about a cruwear manix xl, but my sweat would be awful on cruwear if rain can cause spotting on it for me. This salt version however, I'll carry that every day. It's going to be my new EDC.

I have a Cruwear PM2 that I have not had issues with. No salt water but I am in the Mid Atlantic and it get nasty humid here. I am not a fan of DLC, especially on a stainless steel like MagnaCut, but I love those salt textured scales so I would be tempted.vivi wrote: ↑Tue May 27, 2025 11:22 amI felt it was fair paying ~$245 for a Military 2 Salt, even though it was only the second time I spent over $200 on a knife of any sort since I started collecting in the 90's.WilliamMunny wrote: ↑Tue May 27, 2025 11:19 amEverything is going up price was unfortunately. Speaking of $200, a few years back that was the breaking point of an expensive knife in my mind. Fast forward a few years now I feel like $300 is the new $200. Nothing against Spyderco they do a great job with cost, just everything has gone up so quickly in the past few years, except my salary haha, you really notice it.
Just noticed the Bodacious SPY-27 is available right now on Spyderco.com. Had some money put away for a REX-121 if they came back but that Bodacious is tempting.

Re: Reveal 18 - Live!
That Metropolitan is straight up fire.
Re: Reveal 18 - Live!
The stealthy all-black Police is nice but not $285.00 nice for VG-10 and black TiCN coating. On the other hand, the stealthy all-black Manix2 XL with MagnaCut, black bi-directional textured G-10 and black DLC coating is a relative bargain at $224.25.
The Chaparral Red Dark Matter Fatcarbon looks great but it’s still XHP which rusts easily and a pricey $318.75.
The Starmate Sprint is another nice one with better steel but pricey at $337.50.

Looks like some CQI on the meerkat scales? The last one I owned I recall being pinned, and only one pin plus the pivot (under the scale of course).

Re: Reveal 18 - Live!
Talking about pricey...the Starmate is listed for €445,- in Europe that is 504 USD. Still gonna buy it, but the pricing trend (in general on a lot of products) is reaching it's limits of what I want to pay for it. Probably the only knife in G10 and 20CV I will ever pay this kind of money for. But no doubt it will be worth itRamZar wrote: ↑Tue May 27, 2025 11:40 amThe stealthy all-black Police is nice but not $285.00 nice for VG-10 and black TiCN coating. The Balance is listed for €296 or 335 USD. That's a hard pass.

The Mules steal the show here.

Re: Reveal 18 - Live!
Great lineup...but I'm still waiting for the Yojumbo in 15v from Reveal 17

Re: Reveal 18 - Live!
MagnaMax mule is great news. Like seeing the Bodacious in SPY27, but disappointed to see it is still "smooth" G10 scales. LW Shaman is interesting in the texture / appearance of it, but only being 9% lighter than the G10 model doesn't really seem worth the LW moniker. Love seeing Spyderco use Fatcarbon on that new Chaparral, but the MAP is pretty crazy to me, don't think I could rationalize paying over $300 USD for a Chaparral. That's higher MAP than the Sage 6 S90V sprints; is it tariff related? Also glad to see the mid back lock return to the Lil' Native for the 15V sprint.

Re: Reveal 18 - Live!
Cool reveal. As usual, many hours go by before I notice the reveal topic :)
Quite a few I'd like to try, but with the current prices I have to narrow it down to what I'll realistically use on a regular basis.
I kind of surprised myself when I was able to quite convincingly justify a P4 in Spy27. That could be the one (P4). It's definitively on my radar.
The other one that caught my attention, and I've been kind of waiting for, is the Metropolitan. I have high hopes this could be the Urban done right. Will def. read/watch about a million reviews before I commit, to avoid being disappointed again - and also get an impression on how M398 holds up.
Runner up is the Dyad Jr. Honesty I'm very skeptical that it has a place in my palette of cutting tools, but the charm to handle ratio is rather irresistible. In a weak moment this one could easily find its way into my shopping cart.

The Starmate and Meerkat are prime candidates for me! Maybe the Bodacious as well.

The Mules, Dyad, and Manix 2 XL Salt are automatic buys. Probably the SPY-27 Bodacious, too. Yeah, definitely the Bodacious.
