Caribbean LC200N vs Stretch 1 ZDP-189 --- Winner Stretch 1 ZDP-189
While I have never handled a Caribbean, it's a loser out of the gate with those scales. Sorry Mr. Bumblebee, no can do. And while LC200N may be great around water, this is not my sailing knife and I don't work on the docks. I don't want to have to resharpen any time soon, and my ZDP-189 provides that for me. Even the standard VG-10 works pretty well and I prefer that to LC200N, but that is my personal preference. And don't get me started on HAP40 although I do prefer ZDP-189. ymmv
While I am a fan of compression locks, if you are working without gloves for any period of time, lock backs are easier on the hands due to the full back. And the Stretch 1 has a lock back. The Stretch 1 also beats the Caribbean in weight by being lighter at 3.4 oz vs. 4.2 oz.
The original Stretch also provides a really nice grip on its FRN handles with an extended pinky coil at the butt end in addition to just the right amount of jimping on the top edge of the blade along with some jimping in the choil. Add in a nice upward curve on the blade side and nice downward curve on the back or swedge, and it makes for a beautiful blade.
Whether cutting apples in the office or cleaning deer in the field, the Stretch 1 is a great folder. It is my favorite blade shape of all Spyderco knives and this knife has seen EDC time for years.
