That looks familiar even down to the same ceramic rod... except for all the crazy colors.
Great minds think alike!

I also gave an Aqua Salt SE in the kitchen drawer, but it rarely comes out of the sheath.

You should really try a K04 SE! Or it’s shorter brother the K05. It is longer than the Aqua Salt but much thinner, and the serrations are less snaggy. In the kitchen it is an order of magnitude better than the Aqua.

Thanks - I plan to get a K04 SE.

You reminded me - now, thanks to Spydie Santoku, I have to get a new block.

Here is the current kitchen line-up. I still haven't found the perfect paring knife (we have 5-6) - will give the Spyderco an audition. Left out the Buck Empress carving knife, as it only comes out for large birds.

I agree - they are fun to sharpen, hold their edge well, and are great for carving the small roasts that I smoke most of the time, especially tri-tips.

Hi HolySteel,

I don’t suppose you know whether the Aqua Salt is full tang perchance? I can get one locally at a great price (for Asia anyway) and really fancy one for work, but it’d take a hammering hacking through brush and young sapling stems. I’m reluctant to buy one without doing my due diligence first, but I can’t find anywhere if it is full or partial tang.

Have a great day,
Al

Based on the balance point (toward the middle) I would say 'no', but I'm sure someone here can confirm one way or the other.

No mention yet of my personal favorite in the kitchen, the VG-10 Yang:

I just bought another one, for my brother. There are a few on ebay, including one NOS at a great price.
If Spyderco did a fixed blade in a similar design I'd be all over it.

You are so right!!! Would be an insta-buy for me and probably many others as a good filet knife has been absent from Spyderco's lineup for far too long.

Thanks for getting back to me 👍🏻 The shop that stocks them here is mail order only, so I can’t even take a look at it in hand before buying and returns are only if the item is defective.

Have a great day,

You should have no concerns about their strength either way. Bomb proof as any other knife I've used, and I've been using them hard for over a decade now.

I agree with Vivi.

I’ve hacked a bunch of invasive trees up with my serrated one.
At first, the chisel ground serrations are a little acute from the factory to not roll somewhat when hacking, but they’ve been fine with my CBN edge on them. It is slightly convexed from free hand sharpening on the Sharpmaker I think (plus the micro bevel on the opposite side from burr removal).
Most of what I do isn’t hacking which is when I personally prefer the serrations.

It feels like a really sold knife despite being pretty lightweight.

I hope a somewhat similar knife will replace it now that it is discontinued.
