Polestar/Alcyone in BD1N
Re: Polestar/Alcyone in BD1N
Thanx Mike.
The Polestar and Alcyone Were originally designed for Scouts. Two sizes broadens the hand sizes. It's essentially a smaller Military that can be used with gloves. We made it in China to keep the cost down and one of the better makers, in my opinion, is making it. I've always liked the designs, but I'm biased. they've not been in high demand, though those that have them and use them like them. The new G-10 color and the BD1N, it is hoped, will create more demand. I have been carrying one for a while and for me, it clicks the boxes, it's a refined design for which we spent much development time. But as I said, I'm biased.

Sal, I have to say I am extremely excited about Alcyone and Polestar to be honest.
Liked the design but steel was always the culprit for not making the purchase to be honest - Used to have Polestar in CTS BD1 but edge holding was not pleasing (worse than 8cr13Mov), gave it to my Mothers partner (LEO) and he finds it good enough for his very irregular knife chores.
Now with BD1N I am so excited and Grey G10 looks wonderful (loved previous pattern as well though). One of the best basic models I would say. Looking extremely forward to buy one and use it as soon as it will be available here in Europe.
Thank you very much for such amazing and mature design at an affordable price, really appreciate that

Anyone see these in the wild yet? Really looking forward to the CQI update.

I checked the usual suspects this morning but had no luck. I had an original Polestar but gifted it to a relative. However, I'm a fan of BD1N and I think the gray scales look pretty handsome. I just haven't decided whether to go with the Alcyone this time around.
Re: Polestar/Alcyone in BD1N
I have been overly impressed with this model. I love the neutral grip and edge that comes right to the handle. The quality from this maker is great, and I now get why people praise the Spyderco linerlock. Cannot say enough good things about this. Biggest surprise for me this year.

Edit - If I were asked what I wanted in a work knife, this would be pretty close to it.

Very nice, that gray looks much better than the original checkered pattern for my taste. The Polestar is in the top 5 soon to purchase, I keep putting it off because of the excellent exclusives currently being released (S90V Shaman and Elmax/CF Para 3 for example)

It is a typically excellent Sal design.

I always hated linerlocking knifes, they just never worked well for me. But then I recently go a BD1N Alcyone and it has changed my mind. The linerlock on it owrks great, very happy with it.Wartstein wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 7:24 amJSumm wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 5:06 amI have been overly impressed with this model. Re: Polestar/Alcyone in BD1N
Does anyone know if it’s safe to assume all polestars are the new versions at this point? Doesn’t seem like any online images are of the new G10 and most places still list them as BD1.
Re: Polestar/Alcyone in BD1N
I did see some old ones listed from certain dealers, so they are still out there. You should be able to tell from the picture (gray scales) and the steel description (BD1N vs BDN) as to whether or not it is the new model. I got mine from National Knives based on a lead from JRinFL.
