Re: Caribbean Sprint(ish)?!
What turned me was carrying a Salt Dragonfly for two years at work . Since the Caribbean is designed specifically for aquatic environment the colors makes sense . Yellow handle saved me on more than one occasion getting distracted at locations and walking away without the Dragonfly . So works well locating misplaced knife . I hope the Caribbean has a long life at Spyderco . Re: Caribbean Sprint(ish)?!
i'm guessing it will. there seem to be some models that are "chosen" and considered untouchable regardless of sales. the caribbean is one of them, from what i've seen. people have complained about the scales of the caribbean since it was released and there have been no hints at changes or it disappearing from the lineup. instead, sal has reminded us that it's unapologetically purpose-built and it's fine if it's not for everyone.Manixguy@1994 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 12, 2021 9:44 amWhat turned me was carrying a Salt Dragonfly for two years at work . Re: Caribbean Sprint(ish)?!
I'd settle for a regular production run myself. Been waiting to by a Caribbean for what seems like forever.
Re: Caribbean Sprint(ish)?!
I just want to reiterate how amazing Peel-Ply CF will look with the milled out ribs. You almost get the best of both worlds; the muteed CF on top with the Peel-Ply texture and then within each rib you get to see that amazing CF weave from all angles!
Sal, what do you say!? I know you want to see this too!
On another note: I don’t think Taichung has ever worked with Peel-Ply CF before.

No I fear we would get stuck with the laminate if this idea got CF scales, and while I'm not totally against that idea it definitely doesn't get me anywhere near as excited as peel ply does, with or without the machined ribs. I agree though, this is an idea that's right up there with the fluted titanium and carbon fiber models in awesomeness and it would be so cool I'd have to get at least two.
Really though I'm still baffled that this knife isn't at least offered in a basic blacked out DLC version like so many other Salt models have gotten. As simple as that seems like it would be to pull off and as hot as DLC seems to be these days I don't know how it would flop.

i think only two salt models have the blackout treatment. it's really a shame. i can't imagine they sell less black salts than the brightly colored versions. i'm still waiting for a ffg pe black df2 salt. a pe leaf caribbean in all black would be sweet too.Evil D wrote: ↑Fri Nov 12, 2021 5:13 pmReally though I'm still baffled that this knife isn't at least offered in a basic blacked out DLC version like so many other Salt models have gotten. edit: i forgot there were some blacked out fixed salts too.

I think the bright color benefits are definitely beneficial in a lot of situations, but I think most average knife guys are more likely to buy all black than screaming yellow. It seems to me if you strip away all the salt water marketing and you just have a standard Caribbean and you have a blacked out version next to it, I really feel like most knife guys would choose the blackout unless they just absolutely hate coated blades.

I have to agree on the blacked out comments Guys , Carbon ply machined scales would definitely give this nice a completely different personality. MG2

Re: Caribbean Sprint(ish)?!
I wonder why that is? Maybe the models chosen for Taiwan manufacturing just happen to have less contouring than the models made in Japan? They’re all designed in Golden, right?
Re: Caribbean Sprint(ish)?!
It has to be a deliberate decision, the Native 5 is blocky too. They could make these molds round if they really wanted to.

Re: Caribbean Sprint(ish)?!
Yep, Native 5 is basically an FRN brick. The difference in the shape of edges to something like Para 3 LW is quite considerable.
... I like weird
...
Re: Caribbean Sprint(ish)?!
The Manix LW is also blocky, and a Golden-made product. Isn’t the Para 3 LW also made in Golden?
