Can’t make everyone happy, at least there’s options. Being a business owner can be rough since there’s always something that people can find to complain about. IMO this is a non issue because, again, you have options. Get a torx driver out and change it..not that hard. If the marred surface bothers you then return it to the dealer.

Have you tried flitz? Im sure that would take it out. Even if you have to buff it, the copper will patina and you won’t even see it after a very short amount of time.
I'll try some flitz. I'm not sure if catering to the ~30% that want the knife this way is the best method of making sure the most people are happy.
I don't really think the average joe would care that it comes tip down and if they did then they would just fix it. It takes about a minute. The same goes for the average knife enthusiast imo, most of us have the tools to do it. It's not worth complaining about. It takes more time to complain about it then to move the clip.

I hope the flitz works for you, let us know.

Theyre 100% Spyderco / not Flytanium. It's what makes the knife so bad ***. The compression lock design is different too. There's no liners. It's like the PM3 lightweight. I like to think the brass PM2 is a prototype for a PM2 lightweight. :beaming-face
I didn't know there was a liner-less PM2! That's awesome but the only place I could find a picture was from an older youtube video of last years model.

The key to this thread is in the OP’s user-name.
Yup! Doesn't bother me on my other 20 PM2's. Bothers me when it literally mars the handle. However, it doesn't invalidate that there is overwhelming support for the clip to be tip up like almost all of his other knives.

I also bet it would bother more people if they also had purchased brass handled sprints. I have no qualms with the G10. You can't notice any marks unless you REALLY look close.

It's bad *** right! I REALLY hope it's a PM2 lightweight prototype situation. I'm running out of regular PM2's to collect. haha

This is your newest Blade HQ exclusive. I've tried rubbing alcohol, acetone, paint thinner, magic erasers. Nothing works. There's paint imbedded in dents that only coarse abrasives will get out. Knife has never been carried. This is PM2 number 20 for my collection. Thanks for making it extra special.

For me...tip down is wrong and Spyderco clips are useless. Being able to change and put the clip where I want it is one reason I like Spyderco.

Looks like one would have to get really really close to even see what you are pointing out. :face monocle

You using or collecting???

Where are you getting your percentages from? I prefer tip-up on most knives, but I'm not sure that 7/10 people that carry a particular knife agree with me.

The threads I linked all have people nicely trying to influence Spyderco with polls over the years. They all show a clear majority preferring tip up. Their time spent making polls did nothing. Figured I'd try another way to get their attention. I'm cool with getting flamed by members to try and get the company to at least explain themselves (not in any way saying you are). At the end of the day my Spyderco loyalty is shown in my knife collection, not my post count.

I honestly think the best compromise is not installing the clip on sprints and exclusives. Average Joe no torx bits wanting a knife to carry out of the box doesn't typically buy sprints in exclusives. Dudes that buy the special knives do and can install a clip.

The majority of your very loyal customers want the PM2 to come tip up.

Based on what data? Do you have a figure for the total number of PM2's that Spyderco has sold? Just because a few people, or even a few dozen people, on this forum say they want something does not mean that the majority of buyers want the same something. I'll admit, I don't have a dog in this particular fight as the only PM2 I own is the Forum Knife and it was purchased in spite of it being a PM2, not because it was one. As for why it's tip down, my guess would be that, since a lot of models with weak "bias to closure" come that way, reducing the chance of accidental partial opening in the pocket would be the reason. But that's just a guess.

The Military is tip-down only, the original Paramilitary was tip-down only, the PM2 comes tip-down from the factory... The Para3 coming the other way around is the odd man out here.
That's interesting. Didn't give it any thought until now, but my Maxamet PM2 arrived tip-up. Switched by the dealer because so many want it that way? Not me, though; I didn't like the way it rode in my pocket with the clip in tip-up position and switched to tip-down, like my original Paramilitary.

Use the knife for twelve months and tarnish and patina will sort that handle out.

Never moved a clip unless I throw a Lynch deep pocket clip on

If the knife is a safe queen to be carefully fondled with white gloves, best to leave the clip where it was when shipped. If the knife will be carried or even (gasp!) used, the normal wear and range marks it acquires will cause the clip mark to get lost in the noise.

Just curious how you know the "majority" want this?

The data we have available. There is none showing the contrary. The likely reason almost every knife over $100 is tip up (including Spyderco's) AND the forum polls reflect it, is because its what people want.

I'm very interested in what you prefer over a PM2. I'll shoot you a private message. I'm always looking for something else to try but keep coming back to PM2's. :grin-big eyes

Lots of defensive posts. No one has yet to say they prefer tip down. Odd.

I guess people have different ways of showing their support for a company? Everyone in my family got a spyderco last Christmas. Women got delicas, men PM2's. But hey I guess some of you upping your post count on a forum over something you all would prefer to be changed is one way to promote the brand...

On G10 PM2's, your decision to mount the clip, where the majority doesn't want it, only causes marring visible in certain light. However, on your copper models it mars the handle in an obvious way; especially if there's a black clip.

The multiple threads you've ignored are below:

Use the search function. This has been addressed several times. Bottom line is it's the designers preference and Eric prefers that the PM2 is tip down. Get over it. It's easy enough to change the clip
