mid sized "gentleman" folder

Maybe another great option is the Spydiechef with LC200N steel. In a short period of time this folder has become one of my favourites. The shape of the blade is very convenient when cutting food on a flat surface. When cutting cardboard you use the heel part of the blade which gives me a whole different feel to using this knife in comparison with more standard bladeshapes.

I enclosed a picture of the Spydiechef below. For size comparison i also threw in the Mantra 2 you mentioned, the Sage 5, Chapparal CF, PM2 and Para 3.

My prettiest Spydercos are the 4V Manix 2, the Hungarian and the fluted Ti Military. They all pass the “wife test”, she likes the look of them and therefore they are good gentleman folders :)

This is my recommendation too. If you like the Delica, give this one a look. Not FRN, a proven model in a “dressier” handle material that isn’t common for Spyderco. You’ll also get to try out a different steel. Sounds like a win/win to me!

So guys, I am looking for a new Spydie and need some guidance. I have smaller folders (Urban k390 and Dfly salt SE) and some larger users (pac Salt and millie in S90v). I am going to sell my Stretch 1 in ZDP and want to roughly flip that into a nicer gentleman folder. I was gonna try the manix LW S110v, but for my users I am covered (plus fixed blades when needed), and I love FRN but want a little nicer feel.

I love the delica size +/-, but want a nicer piece. Roughly for what I can sell my Stretch for, maybe a few bucks more. Any ideas?

Mantra comes to mind, but its a little more then I want to spend. I have never used M4 before. Any other good options? blade steel in none S30V (solely because I want to also try different steels out, more so for fun then actual need).

Gayle Bradley comes to mind, but that might a little larger then I am looking for.

I have K390 in an Urban, S90V in a Millie, ZDP (Stretch), H1, VG10, S30v.

Well, you could always spruce up your Stretch. :)

Do you still have your Mantra 3? I remember that thing seemed to never leave your pocket a couple months ago. I thought you found your ONE with that for a bit.


On topic...I know you said something about wanting to try out a different steel, but another knife that's been looked over that is also a very nice gentleman's carry is the Centofante 3. I believe that's around $70, VG-10 steel.

I'd hardly call myself a "gentleman".. but when I'm trying to act the part, I carry my ti "Stealth" Chaparral.. great knife, and entirely classy-looking, if you can still find one..

I think the Kapara qualifies as a mid-size, but it is S30V.

Can't believe nobody has suggested a Caly CF/ZDP model. The 3.5 is still in stock some places.

Another Chaparral CF vote. Sage 1 if you want something larger (S30v, sorry). GB2 if you want something even larger. Something about that Taichung CF...



If you really like the Delica, the Pakkawood version could not be more classy IMHO, and HAP40!

Your post just made me realize for the first time: While Stretch, Endura and Delica in HAP40 all came out in the burnt orange frn version, the Pakkawood /HAP40 was only given to the two former... A Stretch in that version would be (or have been) great, but I guess if ever it will be the upcoming Endela (instead of the Stretch) which we'll see in the Endura-family-sprint-versions. But as far as I can tell a Pakkawood/HAP40 Endela would also be great.
