They look good to me. For the most part they seem to follow the arc of the blade when closed...

Yes, but look at how they're spaced out between each other...

The ATR will be fairly easily customizable with those handle scales...

what do you make of the pivot...adjustable? yea or nay?

And please add blade choil jimping-- please and thank you! :) :spyder: :) :)

fuss is about. :p

All the earlier posts were 12+ pictures, so I couldn't pick a small one to quote. *shrugs*

The ATR has some interesting firsts. First Seki City model with Crucible steel. This opens the possibility of S90V or S110V in a Japan model.

The corner on the lock release looks like it's in a weird spot. I don't know that I'm a fan of the hood.

I love the grind on the ATR but I wouldn't be heartbroken if it were FFG either. Maybe FFG with the dagger swedge so it retains some of the character of the original.

Wouter,
Thank you very much for pictures and your comments.
ATR is must have.
I like Mamba a lot, but not sure, if I will get it :( .

Thank you for the awesome kick-off to some great pictures and specifications, Wouter. I must say it felt a little like waking up on Christmas when I got up this morning. ;)

Here are a few initial impressions:

ATR:
1. I am pleased to see how close this design was kept to the original ATR. The boost to S30V is a nice touch, too. I think this will easily become a favorite model in a very short time frame (especially for those of us who procrastinated on buying one of the original models). I agree with David with regard to the hole spacing on the handle. Basically, it looks like the holes are spaced equally when you look at it in a "two-two-two" pattern. But, perhaps it would look a bit better if the holes were all simply spaced equally (as in a one-one-one-one) pattern? Even if not, it wouldn't bother me too much.

2. I like how the Cobra Hood is removable (just like the original).

3. It may be interesting to see what it would look like in a plain/smooth G-10 vs. peel-ply. Nothing against peel-ply whatsoever, I just think smooth G-10 would dress it up a bit more.

4. I like the new pocket clip quite well. Would you consider adding a four-way pocket clip placement?

Mamba
1. I love the trailing-point style blade on the Mamba. It kind of reminds me of the scimitar-style blade found on Ed Schempp's Persian model. This one has a lot of curb appeal, no doubt about it.

2. The hidden lanyard pin is a really nice touch. Love it.

3. I'm looking forward to being able to hold one of these. It looks like it would be quite comfortable in-hand.

4. Interestingly, I noticed that the last 0.5" or so of the blade (closest to the handle) was left without an edge. I am curious if this had something to do with the high hollow grind? Or perhaps for other reasons?

5. Finally, I LOVE SOLID BACK-SPACERS! :)

byrd Cara Cara 2
1. I've never purchased a byrd knife before, but the looks of this Cara Cara in Ti certainly has my attention.

2. Will this feature the CTS-BD1 steel?

3. I'd like to hold one and see how it strikes me. If all goes well, I may have to pick one up. :D

Thanks again, Wouter! Very much appreciate all your hard work on this.

Now that I look closer, it seems the two end holes are just closer to the other holes, and the center holes are spaced evenly.

I see what you're talking about with the holes but I've been waiting so long for this knife I don't care. I just want to see it released ASAP! I think it really looks great. Sal nailed it again!

I'm still waiting to hear if the ATR is a sprint or is it going to be standard production? Maybe Sal can chime in?

Sal, what about the new Endura with liner lock? Is that still only in the "Possible Concept" stage, and you don't know if you will turn it into a regular production item yet?
