I love my Natives and never felt that I need to open them faster than it is possible now, but if Spyderco proceed with flipper, Emerson or what ever, I do not care. It will not be Native for me though.

I'm pretty sure they already did this knife. It's called the Domino ;)

Well what's even more intriguing to me is the mention of a Manix Flipper at that Amsterdam meet... is that not even more closely related to a Domino?!?

Yeah I'd say so, but I'm not gonna lie I'd probably be all over a flipper Manix 2 LOL. The heart wants what it wants :p

Really though, it would have to perform a lot like the Southard or it wouldn't make a difference for me. I rather like the Manix 2's deployment. In other words, it would need to have the bearing pivot. I'm sure they could make it work without one, but man that bearing pivot is the shiznit.

Yep. Different folks like different things. I guess, for me, it stems from the distinction of a knife as a tool and as a weapon. Sure, tools can be used as weapons, but from a design viewpoint I like to see the separation. A "tactical" (Weapon) folding knife sporting flippers and assisted opening springs is more of a hybrid looking for a market than a design answer to a particular question, need or issue. I would venture that the most successful design of a folding knife intended as a weapon would be the Civilian. No flippers, springs or ball bearings.

Sometimes flippers don't flip so well but the large thumb hole drilled into a blade is pretty much fool proof.

The Domino feels more like a flipperized Manix than Native to me, but perceptions will vary from knife fo knife.
