Re: My Complete Collection - One a Day
Great idea for a thread, GIno. Looking forward to the next exciting episode! I started with the Manix2 CE HG blade. Really wanted the HG black blade after watching a video by Zenith but was reticent about it because at that time I was concerned about what people would think about its "tactical" look. Those thoughts are way out the window now! :D Then bought several more before trying a Tenacious. I finally got an Ambitious and a Persistence as well, but not a Resilience. I had originally rejected them because I had previously owned a linerlock Gerber that couldn't be closed easily left handed, and I wrongly assumed the same would be true for these knives -- the Millie taught me otherwise. If I had been able to try out a Tenacious locally and seen how easy it is to close it left handed, I might still be carrying it and might not have bought any more spydies :D I still think the Cuscasi "Dr. Jones" Tenacious is cool as heck.

The original blue Dodo was my first Spyderco back in 2003/2004 or whenever it came out. The unusual design and coolness factor of the ball bearing lock drew my attention, then once I realized it was made right down the road from my house I just had to get one. A decade later, I still haven't stopped buying new Spydies on a regular basis!

I used to think you guys who live near the SFO were extremely lucky, but now I'm beginning to think it might be a financial hazard

It is ABSOLUTELY a huge financial hazard!! My wife doesn't like to leave me home alone on a Saturday because she knows where I'll end up! :D
Re: My Complete Collection - One a Day
Next up was the CF/ZDP-189 Stretch. This was my most expensive knife purchase ever (so far), and it was the first Spyderco that I had a "problem" with. It arrived very gritty, and full of gunk. I actually tried to disassemble it to clean it, but I couldn't get the scales off because of the lanyard tube. That's actually when I found this forum! Searching for info about this problem. I also emailed Spyderco's customer service, who recommended washing the pivot with soap, etc. I did that, and it fixed the problem. The Stretch has been smooth ever since. I'm sure I would've found this forum eventually, but this is the knife that led me here...

So I just loaded this page to see what the knife of the day was and I saw my post above. Yeah, I actually wrote d a m n you but the forum changed it to **** you which looks a lot like F you. Apologies, I'd never write that here on this forum, not in Sal's house!Liquid Cobra wrote:**** you! Funny...I assumed the former lol. And in the given context, neither would offend me anyways.

Next came a slipit. The foliage green G-10 UKPK. I liked the Caly 3 so much, that when I found a good deal on this, I grabbed it.

Re: My Complete Collection - One a Day
All black Tenacious was first spyderco for me, about two years ago..them a Millie & I was hooked...76 spydies later.....just ordered a Para 2 brown G10 sprint today...wife's gonna kill me..oh well....won't be the first (or last) time.
Re: My Complete Collection - One a Day
Strange... this is exactly how I found the forum. I had a similar problem with my CF/ZDP-189 Caly 3.5, my second spydie and far and away the most expensive knife I'd bought at that time. Likewise I found the forum and asked advice, discovered the upcoming sprints, mule team, and forum knife, got hooked on spydies, and have been buying them ever since... Strange but very effective strategy of Spyderco, to get people hooked on spydies by sending out a few gritty ones every now an then  :eek:gbelleh wrote:Next up was the CF/ZDP-189 Stretch. This was a double post....
So I'll use the space to say that I thought LC said the latter thing to Rigger -- strange I didn't think about the former, but I wasn't shocked either :)

Re: My Complete Collection - One a Day
At this point, I was starting to wonder if I was spending too much on knives. So I backed off a bit, and got a few Byrds. Here's a very nice Byrd Robin. This one impressed me with its quality build (unfortunately not all Byrds are created equal in my experience), but this one is particularly nice.

Re: My Complete Collection - One a Day
Nice. I haven't got around to buying any Byrds yet but have been thinking about it. I think I started buying the value series about that time in collecting experience, largely out of curiosity about their materials, design, and workmanship, as I'd bet was the case with your Byrd purchases too. I was very impressed with the value series.
It would be nice if you numbered the knives in order purchased and mentioned things like "end of year one" etc. Just a suggestion... please ignore at will -- it won't hurt my feelings

That's a good idea. I do have pretty detailed records of all my knife purchases. I could also include ones I've since sold, and why, if anyone's interested.

Very nice. Very good thread :)
Re: My Complete Collection - One a Day
I'd like to hear about the ones sold too and why, if there was any particular reason. I keep a folder of the paperwork on all my knives, with date ordered, date received, price, etc :p It'll be fun to see if & how your purchases compare to mine (I know you have a lot more and some pricier ones).gbelleh wrote:That's a good idea. Re: My Complete Collection - One a Day
This Byrd Meadowlark was actually ordered along with the Byrd Robin. At this point, I hadn't gotten my first Delica yet, but I ordered the Delica just a few days after receiving this Meadowlark. I definitely preferred the more refined looks of the Delica (round hole, bi-directional texture on the FRN), not to mention the upgrade in steel. But the Meadowlark is a very nice, solid knife, especially considering the price.

I went back and added numbering info, and month of purchase to all previous posts.
