It might be a dumb suggestion, but whatever, if it's wrong, correct me and tell me why :P
Wouldn't it discourage the thieves selling counter spyderco if some of you who knows how to tell the difference and have spare money would buy the fake knives and then raise a dispute with paypal/ebay saying it's a fake? From ebay's policies, fake are forbidden and you'd get auto reimbursment once you prove it's a fake.
That means one less knife for the thief to sell, and a direct loss of money for him : the fake knife price he paid + shipping charges.

The difficulty might be proving to PayPal's and or eBay's satisfaction that the item was actually a fake and that you were not either suffering from a bad case of buyer's remorse or the agent of a competitor looking to damage the item's seller. In the case of a counterfeit Spyderco you might, for example, be required to send the knife in question to Spyderco, and get written confirmation from them that it had not been made by them, for them, or with their knowledge and consent.Laethageal wrote:It might be a dumb suggestion, but whatever, if it's wrong, correct me and tell me why :P

What if Sal was the one that did it, haha. It'd be hard for ebay to argue against the man himself. Of course, this would require him to purchase a fake knowingly, and I assume the thought of that would make him feel like vomiting. The Deacon wrote:The difficulty might be proving to PayPal's and or eBay's satisfaction that the item was actually a fake and that you were not either suffering from a bad case of buyer's remorse or the agent of a competitor looking to damage the item's seller. I don't know it that would make him feel like vomiting. It's not like he would actually give them money for copying, because he would get refunded and the seller would lose money. That way, less and less people would try to sell fake on ebay, and in the end (in a perfect world) there would be no one dumb enough to order a shop to make x copy to sell them, knowing they would be bought and contested in ebay for being fake.
I know I live in a perfect world in my head this isn't reality. But still, that would be great!
Sal, what's you opinion on this ?

My wife once bought a Ray-Ban Aviator style polarized for a great price on Ebay without my knowledge of it prior. It arrived looking totally authentic but I was curious why it was so cheap brand new, $30 cheper than the cheapest anywhere else. I spent the time to research it and figured out that it was a 1:1 type of fake but it was that. I contacted the seller twice and he didn't respond so I contacted EBay/Paypal. They rewarded us the money back by default because the seller did not respond to them about it either. Seller never asked for the shades back either. We really just wanted to return it, but instead we got the money and the product.Laethageal wrote:It might be a dumb suggestion, but whatever, if it's wrong, correct me and tell me why :P

Kind of what you're suggesting right? I don't know if it would be more difficult if the seller contests it but the truth should win out in this case.

Now if we could just replicate this process a few dozen times, the lesson could really start to set in.Laethageal wrote:That's exactly what I'm talking about. One counterfeit get thrown in the garbage, buyers pays nothing and seller lose money in shipping + cost he paid for the counterfeit in the first place. Good lesson for those liars.

Just lost my job last friday so I can't spare to teach them a lesson, but if someone can, feel free to share it with us so we can have a good laugh!
Here's a link to one I'd think is a fake on ebay:

Hey all, I'm just stopping by to say, if you got spare money, here's something to help close one of those thieves.
I just talked with ebay and paypal, and if an item is counterfeit, you will get automatic reimbursment.
I found this fake spyderco mili on ebay with more then 10 for sale:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Spyderco-C36-S30 ... 3386082e1e
I asked the guy if it was real or a copy and he confirmed it was a counterfeit. I gave his answer on this forum post :
http://www.spyderco.com/forums/showthre ... ke-on-ebay
So if someone was to buy all 10 knifes from the guy and wait for it to ship out... Then realize from some research and find in my second post it was a fake... he could link my warning post to paypal dispute agent and get full refund of the order.
That would mean a net 10 knifes + shipping loss for that thief... :P

While certainly a funny and appealing idea, I think that fighting bad ethics (fake knives) with bad ethics (using the system to knowingly steal those fake knives) isn't exactly in line with Spyderco's values. Though it would be a fun thing to do.Laethageal wrote:Hey all, I'm just stopping by to say, if you got spare money, here's something to help close one of those thieves.
