Another vote for the Sage 1 (I've owned the 1,2 and 4 and only the 1 remains)

This might sound like a funny question to ask, but do you think Spyderco will ever discontinue the Sage model ? I'd think not, since it seems to me that this model has long been a favourite of many on here and elsewhere. Btw, I too am currently in the market for a Sage and I'm leaning towards the Sage 1. I prefer the #2, but I'm concerned about 1) titanium showing scratches rather easily, which it does and 2) I'm concerned about potential issue with premature lock wear.

I had a Sage 1, 2, and 3. I ended up selling all of them. If I was giving one back I would take the Sage 2. I like Titanium framelocks. The Sage 1 was ok but I didn't care for how slick the liner lock was on your finger when unlocking the blade. Sage 3 would be my second choice, it was a good work knife.

If a CF Chaparral is in your future, consider the Sage2. If not, you can't go wrong with either the Sage1 or Sage2, the latter being about the most minimalist knife Spyderco makes, IMHO.

Being devoted to celebrating certain locks and their designers, the Sage series still has a way to go, I should think, but as the series unfolds, some versions could fall out of production from time to time...

I EDCed my Sage2 for almost a year. If it has been scratched, it hasn't been enough to bug me (and I hate scratches). I open and close my Spydies compulsively. My Sage2 lock now almost touches the opposite scale with the blade deployed, but the blade remains as locked-up as on day one, so I'm uncertain if lock wear is worth the worry.

I'm curious if hardening the lock face will be a CQI item...? Now that we have the Techno and Southard that are both using this process, both from Taichung...

(Is there more than one maker in Taiwan for Spyderco??)

There is, but the other maker only produces the Cat and Chicago as far as I know.

Sage 1 or Sage 2 either one. I don't like the Blue handle on the Sage 3 or the fact that it's longer than the other three. I think the Sage 4 is too funky looking and the two piece handle has to weaken the design when you have only the liners holding the wholle thing together.

Have one of each but the Sage 2 gets carried the most. Something about the design, weight, function and overall feel of the knife make it my first choice out of this family.

For the money the Sage 1 is the way to go.

If the Sage 4 had smooth bolsters (instead of exposed screws) that would be my first choice.
