Boguszewski Spike>> Phil Boguszewski

#23

Post by JD Spydo »

One of my all time favorite collaborations did with a high end knife company was ironically one of the very first high end knives I ever bought. Before I got my first Spyder ever I got an Automatic knife made by Benchmade. It was the model 1000 Boguszewski Spike model designed by Phil Boguszewski.

I loved the knife so much that I soon thereafter got the "non-automatic" versions of the Boguszewski Spike ( the legal versions) which were the manual versions i.e. the Benchmade modesl 640 & 650 Boguszewski Spikes ( the 650 being a large version of the design)

Phil Boguszewski since that time has been one of my very favorite knife designers of all time. I've for years wanted to see Phil Boguszewski and Spyderco do a collaboration.

Spyderco did a model somewhat similar to his famous Spike model and that being the Centofante C-50 which is also an all time favorite of mine as well. But Phil Boguszewski has done many super designs over the years and I do think his stuff would be super for Spyderco.

I don't see Dialex on that list, and I would like to see him. The Junior is Genius.

Also, I don't see me on there, but if things keep going as they are, you'll see one from me in the next year or two.

I have no real interest in overbuilt, tactical, weaponized, or, for that matter, in folding knives with locks other than the midlock, I voted other since, AFAIK, none of the makers listed have ever made a midlock, so there's no way of knowing if they could or would do one and, based on their existing body of work, even less chance that it would be a design that would interest me. To be honest, the only collaboration I'd get excited over would be Ed Schempp revisiting and improving the original C83 Persian with a larger Spyderhole, dentless lockbar, and full flat grind blade of his own damascus.

I wanna see some new blood in the collaboration line-up! Ed is great but it's not lacking knives designed by Ed and produced by Spyderco. For me he is part of the regular design staff. I want to see some work by new designers that excite me. The Southard collab is a fine example of this. Oh I can't wait to get my hands on that one.

Chris Reeve if the collaboration knife will have a shape like the CRK insingo.

Others:
I don't know if the Spyderco Perrin PPT (Perrin, Perotti, Thiel) is a selling success but it is a great and solid design for an utility knife so I submit two French Knifemakers that also make great knives.

I would definitely like to see a Spyderco/Strider colab. Other than that, as funny as it might sound I'd be all about a SAK/Spyderco colab. Give me all the functions of a good SAK but with a Spyderco blade with a thumb hole.

Hi Folks!

I'd love to see a new Spyderco - Kevin Wilkins Collaboration :D

Image
pic borrowed from BritishBlades

Since Wilkins stopped making the Avalon it would be really great to see the Spyderco version for such a great knife.

It has everything on design for the current cutlery tendencies: size, materials, lock, etc.

And talking about lock mechanism, it'll be truly amazing if the Spyderco Avalon comes with a Frame Lock. I mean, the original version has a very elaborated Liner Lock, wich certainly would make it quite pricey.

Maybe the Spyderco Avalon could be the next 'Little Big Knife'? :)
