Well, the cost to join this community is...nothing. So while there are folks I would gladly let borrow my car others I don't know as well. Doing business is about trust and a bad transaction can taint a community. At the least it requires policing which I doubt Sal wants to pay for.

It's better to err on the side of conservative than trusting. Nobody ever makes a whine post about NOT getting ripped off.

Ultimately I want to be at a place where Ed, Gayle Bradley and the other folks drop in to discuss. I learn a ton from them. If I want a Craigslist community I'll go there instead.

This is a place where the president has thousands of posts. Knife makers drop in and chat along side reputable Internet knife aficionados. In the global perspective a n00b like me is just happy to learn and be part of this place.

There are so many places to buy and sell. I've had good experience on CPF and other sites. I just think the traffic that it would draw would be silly. People aren't less trusting here, they just want to see something special compromised by some dramatic crap.

To avoid people like me. I only signed up on the BM forums for BST. Never was interested in the rest. By keeping the sales away, it allows us to fully concentrate on the product discussion. That is why I love this forum so much.

Not so much distrust for one another as concern that a sales area will inevitably attract the type of people who cannot be trusted. Perhaps our fears in that regard are unreasonably high but, for some of us, any backstabbing and negativity such a venue generated would be too much.

As for the other, while I find it hard to believe and suspect you're "seeing what you want to see", if you've actually found such paradises of honest commerce consider yourself fortunate.

Paul states it very well. In this medium "trust" comes over time. I would certainly be cautious of a new member offering some fantastic deal.
Taking BST out of the equation eliminates a variable that has the potential to sow mistrust.
