Hear hear! I have the diamond rods, but would love to have a more coarse diamond set for blades which are in pretty bad shape. I suppose I could rig some way to attach another maker's stones to the rods, but I really hope Spyderco will come out with their own coarse diamond set.

I do have a belt sander for things like machetes, and a paper wheel, but honestly I haven't been able to get really great results from the paper wheel yet, probably I'm too inconsistent in the angle I hold the knife to it.
Which Knife, A or B? get Both! (and C, D and E) :)

I've had good friends tell me that they've wrapped coarse sandpaper around the 204 rods and have had good success doing so. And I do like the present set of diamond rods that they offer but they still leave a little to be desired for more rapid stock removal. Sharpening shouldn't have to take forever at all. Even a really coarse aluminum oxide rod would be quite an improvement over what we current have offered.

I'm in no way knocking the Sharpmaker because I love both of mine dearly. But what the heck there's always room for improvement even for great products. Currently I've been using my extra-coarse 3M diamond benchstone with good success for dinged up blades but it would sure be handy to have a more coarser set in the kit.
Long Live the SPYDEREDGE Spyderco Hawkbills RULE!!
