BDJansen, welcome to the forum.

Due to German carry restrictions, I'm beginning to carry the orange UKPK S30V here. Also have a UKPK Titanium S30V, am a great fan of titanium.

Both are excellent knives.

The UKPK is definately a bit different-shaped than the Caly 3. I like the UKPK's shape better - deeper choil, blade shape, no liners... so we do need a linerless UKPK with a lock. I'm talking leaf-shape blade here, but the drop point is also gorgeous and very useful. Hook me up. :D

- best wishes, Jazz.

I had to look that knife up since I'm pretty new to Spyderco. You're right, that looks almost perfect. Just put the new wire clip style right at the end for tip up carry and we have it!

The scales are made of "ghost green" g10. Looks a bit like jade green, slightly transluscent.

Nice knives, guys! Love your pics, Leatherneck. This is turning into a UKPK appreciating thread. Here's my two bits...

Leather - did you mod that yourself? Nice job.
Mr_Moe - that's also a great-looking mod.

Sorry, not trying to derail this thread. :o

Got two of them today, the maroon FRN with leaf blade and light blue with drop point. I bought them for Christmas gifts, but may have to keep one (the light blue) and perhaps buy another (or something else) for that gift. Cool, very affordable knife.

I'm assuming you mean the Benchmade? If so, the scales are from a small family business in Germany. Really changes a mini-grip!

That small family business in Germany, does the company name start with a C? If so, they made my Mule scales too. Great guys!

Can any of you comment on concerns about a non-locking knife? Specifically, why do some of you Americans carry a UK Pen?

No concerns for me at all with regard to use, which is generally everyday light duty tasks, and I own them because I simply find the UKPK a comfortable and functional modern variant on a classic design. The simplicity also appeals to me.

I don't know about the FRN versions, but I own two of the G10 UK models (one older and one newer) and there's something quite addicting about opening and closing them; the sound and feel are almost therapeutic.

Being an American, I think the appeal of the UKPK is just cool factor. Its a fun blade to play with and the quality level is high. I normally carry a locking blade as a backup in case a hard-use need presents itself, but for most EDC needs the UKPK is just fine, as long as I make use of the finger choils and choke up on the blade.
