OK, I finally found a good reason why a linerlock should be strong.

Discuss Spyderco's products and history.

I dunno if creamy or crunchy makes a difference in how your knife batons though.
Nothing worse than tearing up an edge on a stubborn nut ;)

That's a lot smarter that way really. :spyder:

I rarely even take a folder into the field though, I take a large FB and a paring knife for food processing.

I would probably take 2 or more FBs also, but I never wear pants without a folder. Often times in the woods the folder never gets used, but it is there (at least when I am wearing pants ;) )

I know what you mean there, I never really needed a folder out in the field or even thought about using one for anything.

Now if I was still in the Military overseas I could take a KBAR and likely an SmF in my gear and that would do it.

When I was in I never carried a folder in the field.

i suppose this is a fine example of the failing public education system. too much stuff wrong with this to mention. really go off to the woods somewhere where magically theres fire wood abundant, but for some reason you feel the need to spend hours with a pocket knife making it all nice and neat in little even pieces. then go even further i mean once u get started batoning you must make kindling wood too right? even though theres probubly armloads of kindling wood nearby. what a hoot! ok so now you have kindling but well cant be bothered to close your folder to scrape a stick to dust, nope gotta do it while its open cuz thats the way they do it on you tube, frickin morons. im sorry but the lack of common sense has reached a level that i fear we cant escape from.

Meaning what? That other locks are suitable replacements for a fixed blade? All folders share one common trait: they fold. That's why they call them folders. Any knife that can fold, will fold, at the worst possible moment. Usually that moment comes when you are far from help, trust your lock and have poor knife handling habits.

Common sense has been dead for years my friend. Did you miss the funeral?
I don't believe in safe queens, only in pre-need replacements.

I am not sure it is dead...but it seems less and less common all the time.
