Is the ronin/yojimbo supposed to be an s.d. Knife?

When you look at the Yojimbo, Be-Wharned and the Yojimbo2, you can see MJ's preferences evolve. The original Yojimbo and Ronin were pretty early designs and with experience MJ's preferences seem to have changed.
He got rid of the jimping and replaced it with a concave thumbrest,
tweaked the ergos with a rounded back and softer finger grooves.
He also opted for a high-hollow grind instead of a FFG for strength.
You can see all of these tweaks in the Be-Wharned, designing the Yojimbo2 he adopted all of these features as well. :)

In the end it kinda looks like the Be-Wharned was only missing the comp-lock, spyderhole and Spyderco-quality. :D
And the spydie ergos. I think the thumbrest on the Yo2 looks better as well, looks very comfortable

for some reason I feel right at home with these wharnacliff designs- according to his philosophy, as in a blade should be more straight with less belly and a sharp point for self defense, would this be why the spyderco police model is generally a straight blade? The point could be sharper, but I'm assuming it was reinforced and dulled a bit to accommodate edc tasks

Tacticool, I was gonna email you re: the Be-Wharned, but I see you already took care of that angle. It's a nice knife, which will only serve to whet your appetite for the yo2 when it comes out.

Thanks for the thought!
The second I remembered that I saw a knife in the back of a home defense magazine that looked just like the yo2, I looked it up and decided on buying it within a grand total of 30 seconds.

I guess sometimes you don't pick the blade, the blade picks you!

Since you are a fan of Michael Janich's designs I figured you'd appreciate this:

This is a custom made Ronin made by Micky Yurko. Mike had these comissioned for his 2005 Martial Blade Camp. Only about 27 were made.

I have mixed feelings about the yojimbo 2 though, I don't like the blade spine and how it's really curvy....sure the function is a lot more important than form, but I think the be-wharned looks really clean and crisp without any extra curvature
