C36GTIP First Look - Military, CPM-M4, Ti/G10!
I've posted before that I love reading the Edge-U-Cation inserts because they give you a window on what Sal or Eric or whoever was thinking about the knife, which sometimes is different from what we think or expect. :) I am going to hope that no one at Spyderco will mind if I attach a copy of the insert for this knife - or I or they can edit this to delete the attachment if that's not OK.

Here's a quick and somewhat shakey answer to a question on blade centering and engagement. Centering looks basically perfect to me, and the engagement is what I'd call perfect also, around 50%. With steel on steel, it's smooth, and wear should be minimal.

JNewell wrote:Jason, I don't have the Ti Military, but I have a lot of Ti RIL-type knives and most have a little "sticktion" when unlocking. This one does not - it is very similar to the feel of the (steel on steel) Gayle Bradley.
That is just the info I needed, thanks, John.
I am now faced with a crummy choice. Keep the Gen1 Ti and get a Gen2 (maybe not the sprint) whenever it comes out, or sell the Gen1. GAH!

BTW, my GB is smoother than glass! Drooling about the possibility of that feel on the Millie.

Maybe I'll send mine in to get tested. I've been so busy with life that I haven't had time to send in my Bradley or another brand's knife in CPM M4 for testing, the comparison will be interesting. I really hope mine ends up just like my Bradley, which is just a great blade for holding and taking an edge.JNewell wrote:Agreed. I'd really love to know how hard they're running these blades...

Someone pointed out a design detail that I think is really elegant and effective in a post on another forum. The steel lockbar facing extends slightly beyond the titanium lockbar and appears (I say that because I haven't actually taken the knife apart) to engage a recess in the scale, which allows the lockbar insert do double duty as a "lockbar stabilizer" to prevent overtravel. What's really elegant about that in design terms, in my opinion, is that it works without additional fasteners or external parts. Nicely thought through, Spyderco!

Brad, I also had that thought, so I took the pocket clip off because it appeared that it was hitting the clip. With the clip off, however, there is still an affirmative metal:metal stop on mine. I can't tell whether they're all this way, but if others have different results after taking off the clip I'll post a video that will show what this one's doing.Brad S. wrote:That is incorrect, it does not prevent overtravel. The pocketclip however does. It is recessed into the titanium from the inside, and held in place by a pin and two screws. very solid.
