Or you could just put a lanyard on it and have the lanyard hanging out of the pocket. My friend carries his Al Mar eagle this way. But not having a clip isn't the end of the world.

Will we ever see the C54 Calypso again?

Though there IS a way to add a clip properly.
Look at Al Mar Eagle Ultralight. 100% Micarta handle, but there is a nested metal ring in the Micarta, and the clip sits in that. It works wonderfully. Don;t know if that design feature would work on the Calypso though.
EDIT: Oh **** yeah it would! Instead of tip down carry, they can use the spot where the lanyard hole was to put a clip there. It would be tip up,though.
My Ultralight Eagle has held up to some pretty nasty stuff. Dropped it down a flight on stairs once

I've read that before, and even vaguely remember reading it. What I don't remember is when he said it (before or after the white Goddard Jr), and thus whether it was an absolute, or if he simply mean just no brand new designs with unlined micarta handles.DMgangl wrote:Sal said he would not make another Micarta handle that did not have a liner. This is because the threads for the clip strip too easily.

I have never actually seen the comment posted by Sal. I have seen references to it in many threads though. I know there are going to be other issues that will need to be addressed, but if a clip was one of the reasons this knife was being held back from another run. I would gladly go without a clip to get the knife.

Good point. :) I would still rather see G10 or grippy Carbon Fiber. I think the G10 JD Smith looks good, the G10 doesn't turn it into "another tactical folder", in my opinion. I don't know; I do know my pockets are full, so if I had one, it would sit around for awhile, then be sold/traded. I had two original at one time. My brother bought one, and the other I sold to Tom Krein(a long time ago). The Deacon wrote:No, it doesn't "have to", but a run in a different color micarta produced by the original maker in Japan would be the simplest for Spyderco to produce. Using G-10 instead, with no other changes might not add to the complexity of the project but would change the complexion of the knife. One of the attractions of the C54 is its light weight. Liners, or even just a single liner, would add considerably to that. G-10 like that on the Sprint Persian would look fine, but textured G-10 would turn it from something elegant into just another tactical folder.
