I posted a reply on YouTube, but I'll say it here - that's a great mod. I am thinking that doing it with a drill press or similar fixed equipment and a ball-shaped burr could make it look just like it came that way from the factory. I think I will put this on my to-do list - probably try it on the $80 regular M2 first. Thank you for posting this.

Sure it should be done much cleaner (I think Spyderco may do it the best in production), I just can not wait to prove this idea and rush to make it with whatever I have around... Got too excited as usual, but it works! I may polish it later. Hope it will help.

Thanks, Vassili.

Sometimes manufacturing changes come from users' suggestions. Spyderco seems to be especially good at listening to users. I'd love to hear comments from Sal or Eric on this. I like it a lot.

I don't think it's new with this model. I recall seeing pictures here or at BF showing dates on blade tangs. I don't know whether it goes back only a year or whether it's more than that, though...

Noz, saw your video and was very impressed with the mod. I have to agree that those pics are excellent. I wish I was able to take them like that as well. Actually seeing your pics made the decision final to pick one up yesterday.

What do you think about lock modification?

Thanks, Vassili.

Great video Vassili. Is that the factory edge?

On the lock modification, it looks ok. We are always concerned about making it "too easy" to remove the lock bias.

No... Sorry. It was pretty good - hair dance on it. Hair is like palm tree - has some microscopic shells on the surface. Factory edge was able to make hair kind of jumps on those shell bumps, but was not good enough to go under and engage cut.

I resharpen blade and polish edge to my taste.

Thanks, Vassili.

What is blade hardness? It fells like soft when I sharpened it.

Thanks Vassili.

I recollect that G-10 in particle form is nasty stuff. I think STR has some horror stories about it. If you perform the modification, play it safe and wear a respirator (not just a dust mask).

unlock it with two fingers then swing snap it shut? Is this hard on a knife like
this or does it cause any stress to it? Thanks.
Use your blades in the kitchen, it's great bonding time!

I love my Carpenter Manix and recently had a belt sheath made for it, really should take some pictures of it.

Point is to unlock it with one finger, which is a case for all knives with locks on a market and so common user experience-expectations.

Also there is nothing wrong with this lock itself (which I like more then many others) - this is unusual for Spyderco luck of attention to details, I would say. Just too thick scales, no access to lock head, which make it hard to use expected way. And this is pretty easy to fix with my Dremel and I hope in factory environment as well.

I do not agree with Sal, this modification did not make it too easy or even easy to unlock - it just make it possible to unlock normal way (with one finger), it is still impossible to unlock by accident.

Thanks, Vassili.
