turks head knots

#21

Post by uumikew »

For tying the big TH knots, eg. 15-19X3-6 I found the tool located here (http://www.knottool.com/) is the only way to go. Tie it on the tool, transfer it to the knife and tighten it up. Works like a champ! Let me know if you need any more info. If anyone wants, I can send out a pre-tied TH for the Mules for the cost of shipping and the cord.

That looks a bit more involved/intricate than I had expected. :o I'll be looking into it further.

Regarding the offer to tie knots for folks, I'll send you a PM some time. :)

i bought a book of knots at books a gazillion that has several variations of turks head knots, and they had many different books to choose from.
tying para cord lanyards, knots, and monkeys fists can become quite an obssesion, so beware!
keep your fingers nimble and good luck!

Thanks, Don.

I'm aware of the obsessive side of the hobby, but still can't stop.

I may see if Amazon Japan sells knot books... My current knot books deal exclusively with climbing/camping type knots. I'll also check about knot e-books, since I'll be getting a Kindle soon. Any previous knowledge re. e-books available out there?

THE knot book is the ABOK (Ashley Book of Knots). It is the bible of knot books. It can be found as a pdf online although there are some discussion of copyright issues. :) Enjoy!

Another simple wrap method to try is 'West Country' whipping, which is just tying overhand knots on each side of the handle. Here's an example I've done with smaller diameter cord(1.4mm braided nylon) on a Benchmade Tether:
