Blade Show
I just got back from BLADE and was in wonder at all the NEW stuff out there on the drawing board. Wish I could remember all the prototypes (concept models) I saw (no pics, and I do not possess a photographic memory) but I will try and rack my brain and list a few.....
1. Some really cool Ed Schempp designs
2. a Jens Anso proto call "ZULU", which size wise (medium) will provide a great compliment to the Rock Lobster.
3. small knife w/ etched flower design, aptly named the CHICK KNIFE
4. wild fixed-blade upswept plain-edge with spyderedge on TOP called the Warrior. Very large! Like something out of Gladiator
5. Huge Laci Szabo designed folder(?) or was it a FB...
6. 2 Perrin folder designs, very cool and one is a very small folder
7. Camo G-10 Police 3 is interesting
Other than that, found out the Leafstorm is delayed again, can't wait until the Chokwe is delivered hopefully this summer, and there is a possible new version (no prototype on display) of a mini-Swick, Golden made, could be produced with 154 CM, very small production run.
I brought 3 Rock Lobs to the show for Jens to sign the scales, but he ended up buying one of them from me because he's out, so I ended up with a great deal on a new green G-10 Haddock with bead-blasted blade.

Spyderco Collector #162
Good one Jess :)
Wish I could've been there. A few of those I have seen from pics and repots are starting to get me warm in the southern regions :D Can't wait to hear of prototypes from the Spydie leaders :) and more importantly hearing from them about confirmed production realities !!!

Interesting, how different was it from his custom Zulus?JspyEDC wrote: 2. a Jens Anso proto call "ZULU", which size wise (medium) will provide a great compliment to the Rock Lobster.

Spent about an hour handling models and talking with Mr. Schempp. All-in-all pretty awesome. I even got to handle some of his handmade models, can't wait to get a Persian now, especially after seeing him pull one out of his pocket and explain some of the reasons behind his interpretation of the design. And thanks for the hat!
The Ti Military is very nice. The RIL looks and feels very beefy.
The Ansø Zulu was neat, it has a fat handle and a good looking blade.
Butch Valloton had a concept folder in the case too, it looked like something Spyderco would have made had they been around circa 1950. Like an Italian switchblade combined with the Spyderhole. Very heavy and a thick blade.
The Schempp balance looks a little funky closed by it is awesome when open. Looks almost like a mini-knife/tomahawk hybrid. Another Schempp concept in the case was the Viking, it as a fairly straightforward liner lock but the blade has two fullers on one side and one very large fuller on the other, visually an interesting piece. The Tuff Folder was there again this year, not sure if anything is going to happen with it but I would like to see it in production eventually. Reminds me of a larger, beefier Barong in some ways.
The Laci Szabo didn't really look or "feel" like a Spyderco knife but it was very nicely done.
The Manix 2 gets a WOW! I was withholding saying anything until I handled it and am glad I did so. I was lukewarm feeling before but I really like it now, it just seems to scream effective engineering and ergonomic development. Caged ball-lock is the next evolutionary step that seals the deal.
The Lefty Military gets a WOW! too. I really hope it sees production.
Jason Breeden's next design looks interesting but it felt a little awkward when transitioning from the opening handhold to the cutting grip.
The Stretch 2 FRN looks like a dream come true. I am very excited about it, the blade is thin and looks to be a sweet cutter.
Shabaria sprint run?!
Zowada sprint run?!
I am generally not a big user of slip-its but the Terzuola looks like something I would carry.

The Terzuola Slip-It was very cool. The Lil'Temp 2 looks like it could turn out great. The Hobbit Warrior I pray makes it into production and I will sell a Kidney if I have to so I can get one. I have no use for one, but I just love the design. As someone who use to own an Al Mar Warrior, I can say that the Spyderco Hobbit knocked the execution of this knife out of the park.
I looked & looked, but could not find anyone at the show selling the Orange G10 Wharnecliffe Slip-It. Sometime in the next few weeks I will be ordering one.
