Both are Collaboration models.
Both are made in Japan.
Both use a liner lock.
Both use FG G10
Both use 3mm stock VG10
Both are FFG
Both have blade lengths around 4 inches.
Both use screw construction
The Barong uses full liners and the Rocklobster nested ( I think).

Barong MSRP $249
Rocklobster MSRP $329

Models we usually see carrying that $300+ price tag pack some sort of special steel, CF handles and sometimes both.
I really like and want the Rock Lobster, at 250 MSRP I would have purchased it already, but now I need to somehow justify spending these extra $$$ though before biting the bullet.

Can someone twist my arm here...
As it has been explained before (and I hope I get this right...)

Spyderco's profit margins don't change, however other factors influence the cost of the knife.

The maker in Japan sort of locks in a price to make the knife when the project beings. Well a lot can happen in a year. Economic realties, currency exchange rates, cost of materials, etc.

Two different knives made a year apart, with the same materials can have very different price tags. You will notice that most of the knives with the insane MSRP's are being made in Japan, and I am sure many of the factors above have come into play.

I am sure Spyderco is not happy with the price either.

Because of a production knife, that is a pretty high MSRP

Even with the high price tag, I can still see myself smiling when I open the Spyderco box and there's a Rock Lobster inside. Wish I had the funds to order one right now! :)

Funny knife world.
I really cannot recall at least one old custom collaboration, which worth as much as custom. Can you help me out with this?
One thing I agree, knife world is funny, probably because it is part of the world.

You mean a Spyderco with an Anso logo on the back? It's not a custom Anso.

Benchmade made the Lum after Bob Lum's All Rounder and they didn't charge like $250 for it. They charged $90 for it.

Just me personally.......but I will never pay over $150 for a Spyderco period. I don't care if it has diamonds on it.........and that's pushing it. I usually will not go over about $120.

I will wait until they cannot move the knife because it's too expensive and it goes on sale at the SFO or at NGK due to difficulty moving the knife.

NGK did that with the Scorpius, the Adventura, the SE ZDP-189 Enduras, and a few others.

Spyderco has done it too in the past.

Holy Crap. 300+ for a production VG10/G10 knife? I had to read it a few times to make sure it was for real. Thats almost half of what a true Jens Anso Custom would run.

The knife was expensive to us. I believe the nested liners are the main difference. The maker in Seki (different maker from Barong) is the only one in Seki that can even make nested liners.

We had hoped to make it in Golden, but capacity issues would have taken even longer.

The G-10 is made in the USA and machined in the USA before being shipped to Seki.

It's a really beautiful piece. Jens did a nice job.

I've always liked the Rock Lobster design but I've been on the fence about this one for a while. I've decided that I'll definitely get one before the end of the year. Between the Anso design and the Millie construction that Anso insisted on, I think this is a must have piece. Btw, it'll make a great user too...

This and the Temperance 2 are the same price...I'll take the Temperance 2 given the choice.

It is a cool design, but my priorities place it pretty low. The handle almost looks like an updated Wenger. The blade looks useful too.

What I'm really waiting for is the Chokwe. About the same size and it should be a good bit cheaper.
42 Spyderco fixed blades and counting...

Nice. Could you take some pics gripping the knife as you were going to cut something. In the video and pics I have not seen any gripping positions. Thanks
